Given that we'll trade AM before next year my thinking is Baron Davis is the key for this team. He is a free agent after the season if I am not mistaken. His ability jibes very well with the up and down style of this team. Get him and trade for J smoove or A. Biedrins and we have a top 5 team in the East. What do you think?

It will be hard to get Josh Smith. I honestly don't think we have a chance of getting him. The Hawks view him and Horford as the cornerstones of their franchise. The addition of Bibby may also require them to pay whatever is offered to keep Smith. They're in the same situation as us, except they have better young players.


Biedrins is one of the guys I would like the Sixers to pursue.

I'm not so sure about Davis. I think GS will hold onto him also. He's the main reason behind their return to respectability in the West.

Baron Davis is a west coast guy. I don't think he wants to come to Philly.

I would not mind if we pursue Biedrins as long as we trade Dalembert. Biedrins would be a great upgrade on the 5 though.

The Hawks are notoriously known for their tightfisted owners. If the Sixers offer Smith much money, we could snatch him from Atlanta. I don't think that he is such a great fit. He is more of a tweener and he would not improve our half court woes since his game is also defined by athleticism and less by a great skill set.

I am still on the Elton Brand bandwagon. He won't opt out of his contract but I am sure he is available via trade. And he would be a great fit on this team.

i'm a big fan of biendris but he is not a good fit next to Sammy.neither of them can play pf.if we somehow trade sammy for something good..than i'm all for pursuing Biendris.

i thought biedrins is really a pf and was playing out of position at C? i could be wrong i only watch so many gsw games.

A) Davis has a player option after this season. His contract calls for him to make $17MIL next season so I doubt that he opts-out for the same reasons Shawn marion won't opt-out.

B) According to sixersfan1976, the Sixers talked to the Warriors about a trade for Iverson but Baron Davis said that he has no interest in playing in the East and that's he's a West Coast Guy.

Now onto the good news. Baron Davis might be a key to our off-season for a different reason. If he doesn't opt-out, the Warriors could find themselves right up against the tax if they re-sign both Biedrins and Ellis with only 8 players on their roster. Seeing as their owner has NO interest in paying the tax, the Warriors could be a team that we trade our cap space to for some assets. If you look at GSW's contracts, the only player I could see them trying to ditch would Al Harrington (Foyle's deal can't be traded). I would strongly consider helping GSW out financially if we ended up with Harrington and Wright.

Wouldn't matter you could sneeze and miss his time on the court the way the jackass Nelly runs his rotations.

yeah thats why i don't know if tgp's idea will work. i could see biedrins getting S/t or just letting him walk. Nelly has as much interest in bigmen as he does in playing defense. none.

That would be an ideal situation. We obtain our PF of the future in Wright, and he'll get the time to prove what he's worth on our squad.

Why does GS want to get rid of Harrington though? Is it only a financial reason, or they're satisfied with their SF/PF spots?

This would totally be a financial thing. I think it will all come down to how much GSW has to pay for Biedrins and Ellis. There was a report that Memphis may make a play for Ellis and if they do, that could drive his price up and create a real situation for the Warrors.

I could see Ellis in Memphis. He's younger than Mike Miller, so Ellis/Rudy can be a good 1-2 punch for many years.

The more I think about GSW, the more I wonder if they are going to take a big step back next season. They currently have around $47MIL committed in salary and only 5 players under contract for next season.

The tax probably won't go up much and will be around $68MIL which means that GSW will have around $21MIL to sign at least 7 players to a contract. Two of those players are Ellis and Biedrins while other players like Michael Pietrus, Matt Barnes, Keleena Azuibuike are unrestricted free agents.

I really do think they are going to be one of the teams that's going to be forced to either let one of their young players walk or make a deal to free up some cash.

Biedrens isn't the perfect PF, but he's a big upgrade and still has some time to develop further. Even if he's a pure C, another big man isn't a bad thing to have.

If what we got out of our $10 mil this summer was Biedrins, I think I would be OK with that. I think that the better move may be trading our $10 mil exemption, a decent young player or two (Smith, Carney or Green) and perhaps the Utah #1 pick for a big salary guy who needs a change of scenery (like what happened with KG). Just not sure who that guy is yet...

I don't think the Warriors will have too much trouble. Beidrins will probably get a deal starting around 9. Ellis will probably get a deal starting around 5 or 6. That leaves cash to bring back two of their 3 other guys. Here in the bay area (where I live) they think Pietrus is the odd man out. And they are okay with that because they have Bellineli in their back pocket.

I would like to see us make a run at Ellis.

Biendrins and Dalembert are the same sort of interior player. Long, lean, athletic guys with no post moves and/or consistent jump shooting.

Forgive me, but I do not understand the logic behind trading Andre Miller in an attempt to get Baron Davis. I wouldn't trade Andre Miller for Baron Davis straight up.

You know...I hadn't given much thought to going after Ellis...but if you truly believe that Thad could play consistent minutes at the 4, Ellis might be a GREAT option (kind of a poor-man's Brandon Roy)...
