Thad at the 4...and Monta Ellis at the 2?

I just said this in another thread...and I know this might be crazy, but given the relative lack of PF's that will be out there this summer, would it make any sense to - instead - think about telling Thad to take a couple of shots of Winstrol (j/k)....errr....I mean work on his upper body strength (with the goal of him getting even more PF minutes), and looking to add a true scoring SG?

The more I see Ellis, the more I like him...nice stroke, fearless taking it to the rack...looks like a decent defender...young guy...

My fear is that a lot of what I see/like about him has to do with the "system" that he plays in, but I think his game would really mesh well with what we do.

Thoughts?

I like Ellis too, the problem is that he's an RFA, which means that we'll have to overpay by a fair amount in order to ensure that GS doesn't match.

I know he's a RFA...so is Andris Biedrins, Josh Smith, Emeka Okafor and a bunch of others...knowing that we probably don't have the $$$ to get either Smith or Okafor (or that neither Atlanta or Charlotte will let either guy walk), I am focusing on Ellis because GS may have some cap issues, they still have to sign Biedrins, and perhaps they don't have the $$$ to sign them both.

Given the style of play in GS, Ellis will be locked up by them even before Biedrins is. There is no way they let Ellis go, even if we try to overpay for him, which by definition (paying more than someone's actual value) is a bad idea.

Eh. It's not a bad idea but I just don't think Thad is a PF. He's done an amazing job this year but I don't think he'll be able to bulk up enough over one summer in order to take on the role full-time next season.

Ellis is a solid player but I don't believe GSW is going to let him get away. The reason they traded J-Rich on draft night for the #8 was mainly caused by GSW's desire to clear room to keep Ellis. Biedrins might be walk away but Ellis will not.

You don't need to tell me about the B.D. thread...I posted in it.

My thread specifically focuses on Ellis. If you think that the topic is the same as the B.D. thread, that is on you.

As far as I am concerned, I might be interested in either guy - Biedrins or Ellis. Perhaps GS has the $$$ to resign both of them, perhaps they don't. It's just that we have been so focused (with good reason) on using our cap room this summer to upgrade at the PF position...which might be difficult to do.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I belive that if Lou Williams was given the minutes and green light like Ellis is in GS, that he would put up very comparable numbers, maybe even some additional assists.

I think with the somewhat irregular PT Williams is seeing, its pretty difficult to groove your jumpshots and keep your touch around the rim.

When Lou's on, his game is almost identical to Ellis'

One more thing about Thad at the 4...even if it takes him 2-3 years to grow into the position, he will only be 21-22 years old...with a TON of career ahead of him.

Again - I'm not saying that this is the ideal situation, but given how hard it is to find a true difference-maker at the PF position, grooming Thad for that role may be the best available option.

I still see the PF coming by trade, so who knows what Ed may pull off.

Set your lineup.

I'd prefer to start Thad where he'd be able to physically dominate many other players instead of merely getting by.

As a SF, he could be a dominant rebounder and scorer.

Also prefer Thad at 3 and AI at 2.

Exactly.

We might be missing out if we wasted time trying to put Thad at PF.

Thaddeus Young has been suppar as a SF. He's been doing most of his dominance at the forward spot. -_-

Right on man I can't agree more with this. I think we have the same thing in Louis Williams
