All kidding aside, I'm just enjoying watching the 1B, 2B, and SS.
These guys are 3 of the best players this franchise has ever had.

They went into the offseason and did nothing significant and what a shock.. they give up 11 runs.

Not enough pitching.
They are going to miss A. Rowand in every way this year.
And there's entirely too many strikeouts in the lineups. Not enough on-base guys.

Except that, you know, they led the league last year in OBP.

Since we're on the topic of "most overrated stat in professional sports", here are the averages for strikeouts last year for the top 5 scoring teams in baseball, and the bottom 5 scoring teams in baseball. Anyone care to guess which is the top scoring and which is the bottom?
Average Strikeouts:
Group A = 1110
Group B = 1033

Interesting. Didn't know that. I stand corrected on the Phils lineup... And that's doubly interesting about OBP being an overrated stat. Good stuff, derek. I will look at that differently from now on...
As for the Phils current lineup, though... Adding Pedro Feliz and Geoff Jenkins are second-rate moves. A friend of mine from the Bay said good riddance to Feliz, claiming we would soon become infuriated with his poor pitch selection and lack of discipline. Jenkins doesn't excite me either.
It's only 2 games into the season, but getting one-hit at home? To Tim Redding? Not good. Obviously, we're headed to another 10-14 April. Is there any other way? But seriously, I think this team might really miss Rowand's leadership, grit, glove and bat this season. The bullpen scares me. IMO they might be in trouble this year.
In short, I tend to agree with the title of this thread.

strikeouts were the stat I was referencing as being overrated.

Ok. Gotchya. Although the two stats are definitely connected. Making contact increases your probability of reaching base. But yes, i see now that you were referencing K's specifically. Still, very interesting and news to me. Thx.

Great quote by the Manager after the win on Thursday:
"1-2 is better than 0-3."

Charlie Manuel = Mo Cheeks
Players love playing for him.
Questionable in-game strategist.
