Hallejuiah!!! I hope that article up top is true about Brand

Post#1 » by Chocolate or Thunder? » Fri Apr 4, 2008 10:43 pm

I know some of you will disagree with my point of view. But I am really not interested in an undersized PF such as Brand. So, if he is not expected to opt out then I say yeah to that. Call not so insightful, call it ignorance but I really was not interested in him coming here, especially with him being injured. That is too much risk and not enough pay off.

Count me as one who disagrees. I know he is coming off an injury, but otherwise he is a perfect fit.

His career numbers are great. He shoots at a high percentage, rebounds well, passes well, is an athletic, long shotblocker (who can even give you minutes at center), is a good character/hard worker guy without ego issues. He's about to turn 29, and it would be great to see him play some of his prime years here in Philly.

All signs might lead to a big smokescreen....if Brand were really in his right mind, he'd know full well that it would be a ***** for the Clips to be a force in the Wild West. It would be better for him if he moved to a team in the East (crossing my fingers for us) and actually had a decent chance to contend & go to the Finals more easily than in the West.

But then again, it's not the end of the world if we can't/don't acquire Brand....

I disagree, not cause I want him, but just him being on the market would be good for the sixers

Brand's only risk short term is the injury...otherwise, he's the 20/10 PF that definitely has the type of game this team lacks.

meh... that's a bad sign he not opting out...i think he realizes he's done n will keep the money he gets. he cant sign a new contract if he cant pass the team physical.

Even if you don't want him (and being "undersized" is about the worst reason, IMO, considering the level of work he's already put in to establish himself in the NBA), you would want him to declare to bring another player chased by others with cap room.

Wait... besides us isn't it just Memphis who has significant cap room? Did anyone think that Memphis would even go after him and if so, that Brand would seriously signing there??

Brand would be nice for a three to four year deal, I wouldn't offer him any more than that.

It doesn't matter now that he's out. I'm also pretty sure that we'll be reading columns in the next couple of weeks in which the Hawks and Bobcats talk about doing everything they can to keep Smith and Okafor.

Undersized? He's not a draft pick, he's a 28 year old with the 22nd highest PER in NBA history. His size clearly fits him just fine.

Well... technically he turned 29 a month ago.... but I agree, he's not undersized and has a massive wingspan.

I think Brand is just playing his numbers. There will be a lot of teams with cap space in 2009/10 vs. 2008/09, he will have more places to choose from...i.e. the Blazers for example. If they continue to draft well, and keep their core players, they will be nasty. Brand will just be the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake.

By that time, I don't know if I'd want him when he's 30. I'm a big proponent of when you rebuild, you want to keep your star players together for as long as possible. I'd like to have a guy like Josh Smith who is on the rise, and can grow on the team. And hey, if he doesn't work out well with Thad and Iggy, he'll still be in his 20s, and he'll be a valuable trade chip later on.

Also with Josh Smith, Thad, Dr. Swat, and Iggy, if we still have Willie Green on our team, maybe all 4 of them can intercept his jumpshots before they hit the cylinder, and dunk them.

6'8" 254lbs with a 7'5" wingspan is undersized now?

I'm sorry but Brand would be very unwise to not opt out, he has ZERO chance of winning a chip with the Clips.

You put him on the Sixers and you probably have a top 3 team in the East.
