The Improvement of Carney

Post#1 » by IggyTheBEaST » Thu Apr 10, 2008 1:38 am

I think this definitely deserves a thread. Carney is no stud, but few can deny that he has been playing alot better as of late.

Just keep hitting the 3 and defending, and I'll be happy.

This is a weird night to start this thread since he did little to nothing against the Pistons. In fact, I don't even remember him playing.

I was one of those who were too hard on Carney. He is basically Korver but can actually defend. That's all he has to do.

Yup. Earlier in the year Mo got on Carney that he needed to take the ball to the rim more and create. I think that's about the last thing Carney should do. He just doesn't have the handles or body control to be successful, and when he shoots runners or creates his own jumpers, his effectiveness goes down. When he limits his field goals to mostly catch and shoot and transition, he has success.

He's playing better, but he's not near the shooter Korver is/was. Korver's obviously not near the defender or athlete, which just accentuates the point that they're not basically alike at all :P

It's amazing that for such a great athlete at SG that he misses so many layup attempts.

Couldn't have said it any better. He's improved his shot selection tremendously over the last 13 games. I actually forgot about his patented running jumper until you just mentioned it.

Not to mention, when Carney is on the floor with Iguodala and Young we play tenacious defense and are virtually unstoppable in a fast break situation.

Korver is more skilled than Carney. Better passer, better post game, better shooter, better decision maker.

The only things Carney has over Korver are defense, athleticsm, and a better ball handle(yikes).

imo it's all about confidence.once you start hitting shoots and getting minutes you can increase your production.carney played well in the last 2 months because mo gave him credit and gave him minutes.

I think Carney's career can develop like Bowen's did. In fact, the shooting %s are pretty similar during their sophmore years: 42/34/66 to 42/32/68. I have faith in Rodney that he will improve and grow into a Bruce Bowen-esque role for us during our future championship runs :D.

He played okay in the first half, hitting a few shots in his only run of the night. For some reason he didn't get in the game at all in the second half.

So are you admitting that you were wrong about Carney?

Carney's layups bank out the same way Ron Anderson's layups use to bank out. Anderson was a great shooter, who missed a lot of layups. Anderson even tried some lefthanded layups, but they still banked out. Size was a problem for Anderson and size is a problem for Carney.

I 'll bet if Carney never saw a player on the court bigger than 6ft 6", he would make more layups. However, that is not reality.Carney needs more backspin on his layups.
