Could We All Live With This Lineup Next Year?

PG: Miller, Lou
SG: Iguodala, Green
SF: Thaddeus, Carney
PF: Villanueva, (Donte Green, Jason Thompson, or Serge Ibaka)
C: Sam, Smith, *Kenny George

I'm trying to be realistic here. As much as I'd like an Okafor or Elton Brand type of PF, I think it's more realistic that we land a player like Villanueva - and it would be much cheaper. And given the options between Charlie and Tyrus, I'd actually take Villanueva because I think he's more of a polished product and less of a gamble than Tyrus (who I fear, may never "get it").

Charlie has range out to 3 point territory, he averages about 12 ppg and 6 rpg (about one less than Reggie Evans), and he's a very long 6'11. He basically a much more skilled version of Steven Hunter. And having two 6'11 frontcourt players who can deflect shots could really ignite our fast break.

On the other hand, we could still take the best PF available and groom that player for the future. I would also opt to try to get a second round pick, which I would use on another 5 - even a Kenny George if available- a situational player that we could use against the much bigger 5's like Yao, Howard, and Bynum. Before you laugh, who would you rather have at our disposal, a 7'8 Kenny George or Louis Amudson?

That's better than our current lineup. CV has range on his jumpshot.

I could care less about George or Amundson.

If Brand cares at all about winning (which at this point in his career, I'm sure he does) then his only option is to leave LA, because he has no shot in hell to win a championship there.

What I'm worried about, is how healthy he is. He looked good when he played in limited time this year, but I don't want this to be a lingering type of injury that ultimately sidetracks the rest of his career.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of what CV brings, especially for a PF, but he did finish pretty strongly this season. I think he's a bit soft for that position, and I would like to see more rebounding and defense there as well...that being said, he probably is an upgrade, but not high on my list. Probably hypocritical on my part, b/c I am intrigued by Channing Frye, who may be a bit soft as well.

LOL. I'd be thrilled if that became the case. I can tell you that I'd be a lot more confident in our chances against Detroit if we had a PF like Villanueva right now instead of Evans. Again, I don't think CV is the long term answer though. I would still draft the PF with the most upside this year.

Where is Evans? Hope you're not saying that CV can be had for Evans? That's not going to happen. I think Charlie could be had though for Sixer 1st round pick this year (18-22). I think he's a free agent next year. And yes, for the 100th time, I think Charlie would be a great fit here. As for Kenny George, I would really be surprised that he would declare. I think he has 2 more years of eligibility and I would use the full 2 to work on his game. As of now, he's a fringe late 2nd round pick and that's being nice.

Well...until I see a realistic, sensible thread about why either 1) Brand is going to opt out of $17 mil to take a pay cut to come here (for less money and shorter years than the Clips could offer) or 2) Charlotte or Atlanta will not match our 5 year/$67 mil offer for either Okafor or JSmith, these kind of threads will be on the board, as they are within the realm of possibility.

If anything, I am tired of the "who would you rather have - Brand or Okafor?" threads. Heck, I'll start a "which Al would you like to have - Horford or Jefferson?" thread, since that would seem to have about as much chance of happening as getting Brand or Okafor or Smith.

And this isn't even a situation where - in many cases - the player in question could even choose to be here - Smith or Okafor may want to leave their teams and come to the Sixers, but the reality is that Atlanta and Charlotte can (and probably will) match our offer for these guys...or at the very least, will force a S&T that may not be all that great.

I have no problem with threads about guys like CV (who I don't like) and Zach (who I have more of an open mind - particularly if the Knicks take the contracts of Green and Evans in the deal)....because these are trades in my mind that can actually happen. I would love to have Elton Brand say "I'm done with the Clippers...and I want to take a $6 million pay cut next season to play on the other side of the country"...

I want nothing to do with CV. The type of PF that I want for this team is a banger down low. And CV by no stretch of the imagination is a low post banger. He is a good talent but I would not want to trade Evans and or picks to get him here. I would be much more content if the Sixers were to draft Jason Thompson and have him starting at PF for us next year.
With our second round pick Kenny George is ok but I would rather see Shawn Foster on this squad. We desperately need an outside shooter on this team.

Sticking to the premise of the thread I think Jason smith is more of a PF than a C, add aphysical back-up center and I could live with that line-up for a while until a deal can be made for a better PF.

Neither- go with the Iron Sheik.

At least with Sheik you know he's won a CHIP- and he can match belts with Sheed in the Post. He gives up a lot of length, but don't under-estimate his strength and use of the Camel Clutch.

I like CV but I dont think he is our PF of the future. Id love to have him in a Sixers uni as long as management continues to look for a true low post treat
