What is up wth Carney???

Post#1 » by c-mac 4.35 » Mon Apr 21, 2008 6:41 pm

I'm a laker fan but I loved to watch memphis when Carney played for them.

So what is up with Rodney... Why does he not get any playing time??

Do you guys think he's a bust? He is so freaking athletic, its not even funny!!!

I don't think he has great NBA basketball IQ.

But how about that play where he took off with the ball and dunked it before it was called off? I mean the guy is so fast.

I think Rodney will be fine. He just needs to be in the flow of games, and Mo may have sensed that last nights game lacked "flow" to say the least, and Carney would have had a tough time playing big minutes.

He'll get his minutes in the future.

Carney came up huge in each of the last 2 regular season wins against the Pistons. He'll get plenty of minutes at some point during this series- especially if Detroit pulls out to a big early lead and Mo wants to send out the trapping, high scoring unit.

A shame this season that the Sixers have never been on national TV. We can expect TNT and ESPN to broadcast more of our games next year for sure.

If WG is moved in the offseason, you'll probably see Carney get at least 15 minutes a night...they were just saving his 3 pters last night.

Good for you, but I don't really understand this.

Other than his athleticism, there is nothing about his game that is remarkable.

He is a really inconsistent shooter/scorer. He doesn't do that much in terms of non scoring stats like Rebs, assts. Maybe he'll mature, but right now I'm not that high on him.

I'm afraid the Sefolosha - Carney trade wasn't in our favor.
I think they are trying to develop Carney in a atletic 3-point shooter (like JR Smith) off the bench. But he has low confidence or something. I don't like him.

some guys get culture shock when they come to the NBA and they aren't the man anymore. i think this is his problem. hes a fantastic shooter when his confidence is up and hes very valuable in the transition game for us. hes just gonna need more time to come around.

Ok well if you play ball u will knw what i mean when i say this.... Do you think its just because he's playing against and with better competition??? I know when I first started playing ball with Martell I would feal like a really bad ball player and woulnd be aggresive cause i thought he would be pissed cause i didnt pass hm the ball. I found myself not takeing wideopen shots and become more of a passer than be the agressor, My confidense was just gone.

Carney probably needs a good ten game playing streak where he's allowed to play through his mistakes. When he was finally given decent minutes this season, he really progressed - especially his confidence from beyond the arc.

The problem with Carney is that WG is more suited for defending against quicker guards because he's thicker and does a better job staying in front of his man. Carney is athletic like you say, but doesn't seem to have the aggressiveness that WG does on defense. Green also takes it to the hole more whereas Carney got too caught up with taking perimeter shots early on in Philly. With more playing time and more work on his weaknesses, I think he could be a valuable addition to this team down the road.
