I was just thinking this.. definitely the Hawks. THey have tons of talent. Then again, they have sucked for so long that of course they have a lot of talent.

We traded our franchise player not that long ago, so our progress has been much more impressive.

Whose roster would you rather have?

The Philadelphia 76ers...or the Atlanta Hawks?

Bibby = Miller
JSmith = Iguodala

We can argue those, but I think they balance out pretty well.

Johnson = Thad (again...for the future...right now JJ may have an edge)

But...I would rather have Horford than any big we have, Childress is probably more versatile than Lou....

After that...who knows?

If we are going to keep up with the young guns in the East, Stefanski really has to get this summer right. But as of now?

I might lean towards the Hawks.

Thoughts?

and I will take Miller over Bibby any day. Bibby is a chucker, Miller is a PG.

sixers_610:

I would also take Miller over Bibby...but I also could understand if somebody else would prefer JSmith over Iguodala.

If both JSmith and Iguodala were UFA's, and teams had unlimited cap room, who would get more money?

(I would say JSmith)

It's close...but Horford is the tiebreaker for me...and I like JChill as well...I think he's a better Salmons...who could do a lot if he got the minutes somewhere, IMO.

the roster is obv the hawks...but as an organization as a whole...the sixers

i have a feeling that hawks team is going to lose most of their talent due to their ownership issues...they have lots of guys id be interested in, esp if atlanta is planning on saving money...a guy like joe johnson at the 2 if we cant sign a legit 4 would be spectacular...

horford makes the hawks roster better than the sixers but i think the sixers will find a way to keep their core together longer

Sorry to say this but easily the Hawks. As much as I like the young guys, Philly has 3 legitimate starters in Iguodala, Miller, & Dalembert. Atlanta has 5 in Josh Smith, Horford, Bibby, Marvin Williams & Joe Johnson. IMO we don't have anyone with Horford's potential (much as I like Young) & Josh Smith & Johnson are young stars. Philly is probably deeper though.

The Hawks but the Hawks have had years of lottery picks while we just started rebuilding. I'm taking nothing away from the Hawks, but my point is that we have nothing to be ashamed of. Besides, we have cap room which is valuable. That being said, at this point, the Hawks have a better roster.

I think Joe Johnson is one of the best young players in the league, and I don't think the Sixers have anyone on their roster who has the ability to take over games like he does. That is what we are lacking.

Agreed.

The Hawks have more talent and better trade chips.

Also, they have a legitimate, young post-man in Horford... Something the Sixers sorely lack.

The Sixers escalation above the Hawks in future years will be a testament to Stefanski's superior GM skills. Book it.

With the Sixers roster, you have to count the cap room with it. If the Sixers add a nice PF this offseason, then I'll take the Sixers roster.

Exactly...if you take out the salary cap and potential future moves, the Hawks get the edge in a fairly close call. That all changes if Ed spends his money well this offseason.

Hawks.

I loved Horford coming into the Draft (as many of us did), and he has played even better than expected.

Also a fan of JJ and Smith. And Childress is a great guy to have off the bench.

But...........let's see what Ed comes up with this summer.

I have compared the top 8 rotation of each player below. If we had Johnson, Horford, Williams, Pachulia & Childress to go with Iggy and Miller, then we likely beat Det in 4 or 5.

If Johnson and Bibby step up tomorrow the Hawks have a chance in game 7. Also, if Atl had gotten Det in rd. 1, they may be in rd. 2 right now.

Miller / Bibby
Iguodala / Smith
Evans / Williams
Pachulia / Young
Childress / Carney
Horford / Dalembert
Johnson / Green
Law / Williams

Yes, this might be a better question after we see what Ed can do with that cap space in the next year.

The problem I have with the Hawks (and the Sixers to some extent) is that the two hardest positions to find are great PG's and centers.

Horford is a promising PF, and maybe they don't need a great center next to him, but they are still weakest at those two positions. Given they will not have much financial flexibility if they resign Chill and Smith, it will be hard for them to upgrade at PG and center. They really missed out when the passed on Deron Williams and CP3.

Today, I say it is a push.. next year it will be the sixers. The sixers have the $11 million of cap space and a decent first round draft pick. The hawks have no cap space and no first round pick. Also , the hawks will most likely lose Josh Childress to free agency ( assuming they sign Josh Smith). If the Hawks mgt decides to pass on Josh Smith, then the hawks take a big step backwards.

not to mention atlanta could lose childress or josh

(its actually not horford, its joe johnson who tips the scale for me)

Sixers
Louis Williams
Andre Iguodala
Rodney Carney
Thaddeus Young
Jason Smith
Reggie Evans
Samuel Dalembert

Hawks
Acie Law IV
Joe Johnson
Josh Childress
Marvin Williams
Josh Smith
Al Horford
Zaza Pachulia

I think I still go with the Sixers young core at the end of the day.

However, Joe Johnson>>>Iguodala

I like the potential of Thaddeus Young>>>Josh Smith

Louis Williams will also be very good.

Horford is probably the best young talent on both teams.

The Sixers' Cap Space can net Brand, Okafor, Biedrins, etc.

Sorry, I don't buy that for a second. Detroit has been there, done that before. Boston hasn't. You can't assume that because ATL is playing well against a team that hasn't accomplished in the postseason (as a group) ever before, that they would do it against a team that has won a title and been to numerous conference finals.
