I really hope this is a case of Peter Vescey filling up space in his column... If this is true, I certainly hope Stefanksi will resist the temptation. Personally, I don't see this happening at all. I'd be much happier pursuing a Wilcox and drafting Speights/Arthur/Thompson/Ibaka... And then going for broke next summer on Paul Millsap.

I would expect Cheeks to do something like this. I mean this is Mo Cheeks that we are talking about here and NOT Byron Scott or Greg Pop. I just hope that Ed Steph is the basketball GM that he is being paid to be and not easily persuaded by a man that is paid to coach basketball (average at best) and not manage teams.

The 76ers should trade their 2009 Utah pick for Wilcox, then pick Thompson or Speights with the 16th pick, then buy a 2nd round draft pick and draft Shan Foster.

IF we fail to sign a pf like brand or okafor or josh smith and knicks accept willie green and reggie evans for him i might like the ideea.

If Zach could pass, I could get over the defense.

What are the other realistic options, Troy Murphy? I'd be fine with Randolph if all he costs to acquire is cap space.

I'd be all for taking Zack off their hands IF they threw in their #5 pick as well. Having Randolph, NY's #5 pick, and our 16th pick is quite appealing.

no way we get the 5th pick, but it is true that Randolph's value will never be lower. It would be interesting to see Zack alongside players that actually care. I definitely would NOT give up Evans to get him though. Evans is a great glue guy who can come off the bench and show the others how it is done.

Not sure how the cap room works out in a straight up trade for Zack, but it would be nice to see the Sixers get a player for garbage like some of these other teams (Detroit-Sheed, LA-Gasol) have done.

If we need to give up a player, I would like it to be Green, but I am not sure he fits with Dantoni's system.

After Ed Sniders rant on Daily News Live about character you can forget about Zach.

I really don't listen to ED, he really needs to just go back to watching hockey and leave the basketball to people who actually know what they're talking about.

And if you could get Randolph for cheap, I say go get him.

He's a better choice than Wilcox, Villanueva, Mike Miller.

Ill take it one step further and say I would consider including
16 if 5 was on the table.

I know zach is fat. I know he cant defend. I know he makes a ton of dough.

I also know the 76ers are in desperate need of a low post threat and could strike out in free agency. If thats the case, I wouldnt mind taking a shot on zach for a top 5 pick

Some players no matter how much they put the ball in the hole or rebound are just losers and bad basketball players. Marbury, Steve Francis, Z-Bo, Telfair, and Tim Thomas are all bad basketball players that can't contribute UNLESS you involve them in the offense and they will quit on your team otherwise. This sort of selfish one dimensional player that spent his whole entire life training and practicing to be a "superstar" are like injured race horses that need to be put to sleep after it is discovered that they can NEVER be focal points on any team with CHIP aspirations. But nonetheless NBA GM's continue to bet on these types of players "potential" and fans keep thinking that once their favorite team gets him that he will finally change his ways or somehow the coaching staff will be able to extract some good quality basketball out of him where everyone else that had him FAILED.

Zach Randolph's poor passing, no hustle, no block shots, poor defense, and poor attitude trump his ability to put the ball in the hole and position rebound. A low post scorer that can't pass is absolutely worthless UNLESS you bring him off of the bench but Zach will be making $17 million dollars in the near future and he has already shown that he will quit if placed into a reserve role.

Zach is like a very ugly woman that has the attitude of a gorgeous diva. If you are going to deal with an ugly woman you want one that is humble and works hard to look better not one that is high maintenance like these Paris Hilton types. Zach would need to approach the game more like Reggie Evans/Milsap/Corliss Williamson and less like someone whose huge paycheck dictates that he doesn't have to be an all around team player on defense, passing the ball, and getting floor burns.

The fact that teams need to receive a top 5 pick to even consider taking him on should tell him something

Again, I don't see us getting the 5th pick AND Zack for the 16th and cap room. No way NY gives up the cheap talent that comes with the 5th pick. i think that a player like Carney would work. He runs like the Knicks are going to want to do and would really play well in D'Antoni's system.

As a die hard Sixer fan, I would love to get all this for nothing but I think that giving up Carney/Willie G and future 2nd for Zack, assuming it works under the cap, would be great for us.

Lots of malcontents have gotten a change of scenery and gone on to thrive. Look at Randy Moss for example. Even a guy like Chauncey Billups bounced around until he found a home in Detroit.

We need to be realistic, but also take on some risk. I really don't think we stand a chance of getting Brand or Smith. I hope I am wrong.

The other option is to go for Kevin Love in the draft (get up in the 7-10 range).

Depends on the trade that would bring Zack over. If it involves Dalembert, then forget it. Andre Miller I would be OK with.

I'm not sure how instrumental Cheeks was in Randolph's career. If Randolph did flourish under Cheeks' guidance, then I'm not against picking Zack up.

Randy Moss is supremely talented unlike Zach Randolph. Chauncey Billups wasn't a malcontent he was just a "bust" that the fans were hard on that flourished as he developed his PG skills as he bounced around from team to team. Zach is just simply a lazy/selfish/poor attitude bad basketball player that can fill up the stat sheet in two categories. Him filling up the stat sheet in two categories has served him well in signing a big time contract but it does absolutely nothing towards helping a team be amongst the best in the league. Zach has reached the end of the road. He has accomplished his goal in life and that was to sign a lucrative contract. He has worked on every skill necessary for him to be able to accomplish his goal at his size and position. I'm sure that in Zach's mind he is already a champion. He is a VERY rich man.

This isn't a shock to me and more or less thought that there would be off-season rumors about Zach to the Sixers. The NY writers needs something to put in their papers and at the Sixers make sense at first glance because of the Randolph-Cheeks connection and the fact that the Sixers can give Donnie Walsh instant cap savings.

That said... it's WAY too early to even talk about this sort of thing.

Even ignoring character concerns, Zach isn't exactly a great player. He's a good enough scorer and rebounder but lazy defender and lousy passer. Meh.

I'd only consider Zach if every other option was exhausted and he came dirt cheap (New York would essentially have to pay us to take him off their hands) and Cheeks was 100% confident that he could work with him. Even then, I'm not sure I'd do it.
