Best Case off-Season Moves

As much as we might not like Zack Randolph, if he were to bring a the 6th pick in the draft he might not be a bad answer to our power forward needs. If we had to send the Knicks Miller, Utah's pick next year and our first this year it might not be a bad deal if it could get us out shooting guard with the sixth pick. But now we have a problem at the forward spot. We have Iggy, Thad and Zack and no point guard. Well what if we did a sign and trade with Toronto for Jose Caderon. Straight up Iggy for Jose. Our starting five would be:
Pg Jose Calderon--Lou Williams
Sg Sixth Pick--Willie Green
Sf Thad Young--Rodney Carney
Pf Zack Randolph--Reggie Evans
C Sam Dalembert--Jason Smith

Not a bad squad in the So-So Eastern conference...Thoughts?

If Miller brings the #6 pick and Randolph, you would have to listen.

I still would love to see a Miller to Portland deal...let's say for Webster/Frye/rights to Koponen (and whatever else to make the $ work).

I like Calderon as well...he's not a defensive stopper, but he's a very good replacement for Miller, and shoots the 3 well. Can we work a s/t for Calderon with Iguodala?? Others would probably need to be included (Kopono???), but...

Draft @ 16...McGee or Koufos. (Batum if available)

FA...Biedrens

PG- Calderon, Lou, Koponen
SG- Webster, Green
SF- Young, Carney
PF- Frye, Biedrens, , Evans, Smith
C- Sam, Biedrens, McGee/KK

Not perfect, but I like that lineup a bit better.

I reckon that a thread exists for this idea already.

If this thread is true to it's title, then here's my best case off-season scenario... And I do hope either Eddie or someone close to him is reading this and likes my plans: (btw, If so, please write me so we can discusss - noahmarmar@gmail.com ...ha):

1) Trade up a few slots in the draft without surrendering Andre Miller... If that's possible, swap with #13 Portland or #9 Charlotte. Take Love or Speights.

2) Throw some cash at Rony Turiaf, who is a RFA. Obviously not overpay, but LA might not be able to match 4-5 mil over 3 years. Especially if the Lakers win it all.

3) If this fails, try for a Wilcox in a small deal, or a Charlie Villanueva from the Bucks for the Utah pick & change.

4) Try to get a legit SG in here. Make a run at Monte Ellis, although Mullin ain't letting him leaving the Bay. Otherwise, target a stopgap upgrade over WG.

5) I'd give Chris Duhon a look as a FA, in case Miller walks next summer. See if you can get him for semi-backup money.

6) Don't do anything stupid like like blow your whole wad of cash on a "big name" PF via FA... which is something virtually EVERYONE here has been wanting all year.

Stay disciplined. Be patient. Spend wisely. And set yourselves up for being under the cap next summer as well, when you can make a run at my boy Paul Milsap and/or others. The whole name of the game right now is being shrewd. You have a bright future. Don't f*** it up.

Get at me, Sixers' brass. I might have some free time this summer for a pro-bono consulting gig.

edit: Take flyers on Patrick O'Bryant, Justin Williams and Marcus Haislip as the 10th, 11th & 12th men.

How do you make a run @ Monta Ellis after signing Turiaf or are all of these moves isolated...one deal out of 6? To 'steal' Ellis, they probably would need to throw most of their cap space at him.

Am I the only one that's having problems with the words 'best case scenario' and 'Zach Randolph' in the same sentence.

Trading Iggy to the Raptors. Toronto fans have always had a hard on for him since the Hoffa pick. Can't we get more back for Iguodala than Calderon? His value hasnt taken that big a hit and he's still kinda young. I ask for Barganni too. The downside is he becomes a servicable backup, and the upside is hes an allstar.

Offseason dream plan though is to land Brand. I dont think he's leaving tho. That team could actually have a decent front court with Thornton-Brand- Kaman. A more realistic option tho would be getting Wilcox for a first( preferably Utahs).

I'm pretty sure an Iguodala/Calderon S&T doesn't work financially since both players would have BYC status on their contract. We'd be fine since we are under the cap, but the Raptors wouldn't be.

Plus, the idea of sending Iguodala to Toronto where him and Bosh can beat up on his for the next 8 years or so doesn't sound so good to me.

I think the best case scenario for this team would be to move up in the draft to grab Eric Gordon, and then S&T Iguodala and a future pick for Carlos Boozer. Then maybe sign Chris Duhon with whatever is left over of our cap space.

PG Andre Miller l Chris Duhon
SG Eric Gordon l Louis Williams
SF Thad Young l Rodney Carney
PF Carlos Boozer l Reggie Evans
C Sam Dalembert l Jason Smith

I like the idea of getting Eric Gordon and Carlos Boozer. This would be a very good summer if this happened. We can probably get Gordon in the 7-10 range if we move up in the draft.

don't understand

Trading Miller in the process defeats the purpose of acquiring Randolph IMO.

I'm not sure you trade your PG for an unproven pick - especially when he was the key to your 'takeoff' and then turnaround and trade your best scoring option (albeit a 2nd option) for a different PG.

I like Dalembert/Randolph in the post though.

I think the best case scenario for this team would be to move up in the draft to grab Eric Gordon, and then S&T Iguodala and a future pick for Carlos Boozer. Then maybe sign Chris Duhon with whatever is left over of our cap space.

Now we're cooking. I think Kevin Ollie is better than Duhon - and I think Lou Williams is good enough to backup Dre and play beside him for 6-9 min stretches. Boozer/Dalembert post would be nice.. I'm not sure this team would contend, but I think it'd get to .500
