Omer Asik

Post#1 » by azkrock » Sat May 24, 2008 3:01 pm

hi folks

i was poster here from Turkey 2-3 years ago, somehow lost the password, stop writing it , from that time i was only reading the threads

im sixers fan from the days coleman comparing with karl malone.
, also im a huge iverson fan and wanna see my 76ers back to finals again

i recommended hedo turkoglu and memo okur here, wanted them to be drafted as a sixer before

now this guy is the biggest sleeper on the draft
born in 1986
Omer asik

playing for my local fav. team Fenerbahce
He's a center who's developping everyday
explosive blocker
just broke the euroleague block record this year with 19 blocks(total)

he's 7.0 -220 lbs
great rebaounder, great offensive rebaounder, very explosive dunker for his size, has good post moves, and learning and adding new post moves everyday
good free throw shooter, he can run very well , one of the fastest centers on europe and also he's clever player (thats important for a center )
i can see him being an allstart in 3-4 years at most

even he's 22 years old- he's the same calibre with Dalembert, he has too much room to grow, he started palying basketball so late like (16-17 years old)

i hope someone listening me and invite him to rookie workouts and they can see that i am right

i wanna see him as a sixers, even i like dalembert ,we can trade him for
a powerforward and replace him easily with omer

I rarely post but azkrock is right.
I am also from istanbul and i can say that this guy is the third talented turkish player right after hedo turkoglu and mehmet okur.

To me he is the best rebounder and the best blocker in europe. And has great atlethicism. Contrary to the post that azkrock, i hate fenerbahce :) but i really like this guy.

If a guy like deandre jordan who has no basketball ability, considered a top 10 pick then this guy is a top 10 also. We can take him with a in 30-40th pick if we only have :nonono: Ok, for example semih erden also considered a 2nd round but he is not as good as omer. i see omer being a andris biedrins type player..

He does move down the court really well for a big man...does he have any offensive skills? He doesn't run like a 7'er...very coordinated and smooth.

i dont think you realize just how skilled the 76ers scouts are when it comes to exploring options from europe.

what was the last european pick we drafted?

rentzias?

we are good at finding potential second rounders but we are really weak on scouting and drafting europeans

One of Stefanski's main responsibilities with NJ was scouting/evaluating European leagues/players. I'm pretty sure he knows who the guy is.

It was common knowledge that the Sixers would have drafter Biedrins if Iguodala had not fallen to #9.

BTW, Biendrins is the same age as Asik, and probably more than a little bit ahead in development. According to Draftexpress many teams are high on the kid, and it sounds like Asik will go in the early 2nd round, which sounds about right for a 22 year old developmental center.

the sixers draft a lot of european players. they just happen to trade them for nothing on draft night.

didn't they draft like 2 or 3 really good european prospects last year and then traded them all that same night? they got that PG from iceland and fesenko, the 7'2 guy from the ukraine.

Not only that, but I would say each team has at least 20 guys that all know who this guy is. This is what they do, it's their job.
