What's the deal with the Jazz pick?

Do we have it or not? Because on all the draft sites, it says the Jazz still have their own pick. I remember something about the pick being top 25 protected (which is (Please Use More Appropriate Word)), but would explain it.
A lil' help here?

We have Utah's 2009 pick, not this year's.
Although, speaking of Utah, I still have the same questions about our 2nd rounder, it was supposedly Top 45 protected - but we have pick #44. If this is the case, shouldn't it be at our discretion to keep or not keep this pick?
While we are discussing picks and Utah - did anyone ever confirm exactly what the "future considerations" were in the Fesenko trade last year?

That's not exactly true. We have the
possibility of getting Utah's 2009 pick, but there is no guarantee of it. I don't have the exact protection rules in front of me, but if I recall correctly, it's top 22 or 23 protected in 2009.
There is a chance that we never see that pick based on the protection rules each year. I think it drops to top 15 protected by the last year, so if by some chance we don't get it by then and the Jazz miss the playoffs that year, we won't get the pick. I think it turns into either a 2nd rd pick or cash, can't remember which.

I'll be a little bit shocked/disappointed if we never obtain the Jazz pick. I find it hard to believe that a young team like that will not get better especially considering their coach.
Either way, we've seen the value of a pick in the 20s which is a bench player.

Ok, thanks. I just wanted to make sure we got SOMETHING for Kyle Korver.

As others have said, that's not entirely true. We have the possibility of Utah's 2009 pick. (We also have the possibility of nyk's 2009 pick, it has the same protection, just no chance of it being after 22). It is possible we don't get it next year, and it is possible we never get it.

By the way, here's the protection specifics on the Utah pick that I saw...
Utah's own 2009 1st round pick to Philadelphia...
Top 22 protected in 2009
Top 15 protected in 2010
Top 17 protected in 2011
Top 16 protected in 2012
Top 16 protected in 2013
If Utah's own 2009 first round pick is not protected AND Utah is entitled to receive New York

My prediction is we will get Utah's pick in 2010. That would require Utah to be a top 9 team in 2009, the Knicks to not be a top 9 team in 2009 and the Jazz to make the playoffs in 2010.
If the Jazz are one of the top 8 teams in the league, the Sixers WILL get their pick. So the only way we get Utah's 2010 pick is if Utah ISN'T in the top 8 next season.

My bad, I just wrote that wrong. I don't expect the Jazz to be a top 9 team next year (you said 8, but I think it's actually 9). I see them taking a small step back next year, but I could be wrong.

So...for those of us where senility is starting to set in:
If Utah finishes in the top 8 next season, we get their pick - regardless of what happens with the Knicks? And the only way where the Knicks come into the mix is if they actually finish ABOVE the Jazz next season (in which case we would likely get the Knicks pick instead).
Right?

If both Utah and the Knicks picks are > 22, we get the choice of which one we want.
I'm also pretty sure the protection doesn't increase after 2010, and it stays as top 15 protected, but I would have to go back and double check the transcript of when I talked to stefanski about it to be sure. I don't recall that being part of the conditions.
