What are your Carney goals?

In 2007-2008 Carney averaged 15 minutes of play scoring 5.8 per game. Up till now he still has a long way to go . I need to see him coming off the bench scoring 10 points a game and demonstrating he can get a better handle on the ball. He also must show that he can pass off his drive in half court. That is something that he has not done, since his handle is not good. We do not need hype from Carney, but we need improvment from Carney, so our bench improves. It's a no brainer, if Carney, Green, LW and Smith came off the bench and score, it would make things a lot easier for Mo Joe. :clap:

i honestly would like to see him work hard enough that hes entrusted as a starter next season if we dont acquire another swing player...green i think is better suited off the bench than carney and i think his long range shooting could be an asset to the starting lineup if it continues to improve

i agree that i see him hovering around double digits next year but id also like to see him become more fluid within the game and slow it down a bit...hes sometimes way to fast for his own good

A lot of things you are talking about in your post are the things we are talking about on the street. He clearly needs to slow it down at times. I would like to see him defending guards,so their view is tougher. The starting 2 guard is there for Carney, but he has to take it. I like Green better off the bench. I think Green can actually be an asset off the bench. :lol:

The only thing that can make Carney look like an NBA starter is Chris Paul and/or Deron Williams. Carney needs a PG that can dribble drive and pass the ball as he cuts without it. Carney will then get his spot up shots and his floaters all without having to break his own man down.

The only positive that Carney adds right now is his improving defensive energy that allows him to guard PG's and cause havoc. Carney might soon develop into "The PG stopper." Carney's calling is on defense and making free throws. he needs to be a 85%+ shooter at the line. He would REALLY put pressure on the opposition if fouling him meant an automatic 2 points. Right now he only shoots 67.9%ft. That's unacceptable from a spot up shooter.

I hope I'm wrong because Carney playing to his potential would solve a huge problem that this team has, but it's hard to be optimistic about him when you look at his production objectively.

Despite his hot shooting streak to close the year, these were his final shooting stats for last season.....

FG: 40.3%

3PFG: 31.7%

FT: 67.9%

....to say nothing of his weaknesses in other areas like rebounding.....

He probably will never be a starting caliber player, but his defense and outside shooting could make him a valuable contributor for years to come. Hopefully he can improve in some of his weak areas(rebounding, handles) to become a better player.

Carney just needs to put it all together on offense. He'll never be more than a guy who runs off the ball and gets open.

Offensively, if he worked on a quick jump shot he could use effectively coming off of screens, then fantastic.

He'll probably never be good at breaking his man down, although he may do it successfully occasionally.

At this point, if he gets any better I'll view it as a bonus. I'm not counting on him for anything. But it would be nice if he stepped up.

touche...i couldnt have said it any better...

His shooting and confindence did seem to get better later in the season last year tho...maybe it translates,maybe it doesnt...well just have to wait and see.i still never see him being a full time starter.

Something he could potentially turn into is a more athletic version of Bruce Bowen. This is if he continues to work on his outside shooting and defense.

To be consistent. That's all. If he's consistent next year in his impact, I'll be happy. I'm not looking for an all-star.

He was inconsistent to say the least. He plays very small as a SF. Unless he can excel as a SG, his chances of exceling will be limited.
