Sixers' fans opinions of Dalembert
Just curious how happy Sixers fans are with Samuel Dalembert. He looks like a decent player with his rebounding and shot blocking. Are the stats legit or deceiving?
I'm not going to insult you by tossing out trade ideas, but just wanted to know if he's worth the money he's being paid and if any of you would be adverse to seeing him traded.
Thanks

I've always been a Dalembert supporter. I like what he brings to the table. He needs to work on being consistent though. He rebounded and blocked shots well last year, but finished some games with no more than 8 points. I think he could be a 10/12/3 player consistently, and that's all I'd ask from him.

Dalembert is a very solid starting center in today's NBA. What he lacks in fundamentals and basketball IQ he makes up for with athleticism, energy, and hustle. Mental mistakes can be seen from him often, however, soon after you will likely see a big blocked shot or dunk that will quickly make you forget his errors. This past season he has shown the ability to man up and play very nice 1 on 1 defense. He's also become a great rebounder to go along with the shot-blocking which he has always had. On the offensive end, Dalembert has developed an impressive spot up jump shot out to fifteen feet. He is not a post player, nor will he ever be, but unfortunately he attempts moves at which he is rarely successful. If he can be consistent and stay within the offense, he is capable of putting up 12-14 PPG.

He grew up a lot last year and came as close as he ever has to justifying his contract. He came up big defensively down the stretch of many games last year and he showed some consistency in his play (mainly attributed to his being able to stay on the floor, which was an improvement in itself). I don't think we'd look to move him as he does fill a piece of the puzzle.

im not a fan of his and dont drink the sammy koolaide...i see where ppl can like aspects of his game but i dont think he translates into a winning player...with guys like rasheed, dwight howard, bosh, and garnett in the east, i think we need a stronger guy in the middle
also, ppl talk about his improving offensive game but he is really just limited to broken down plays where someone drives and throws it to him at the last second...he could hit a 15 foot straight away jumper for about 3 weeks but then lost the shot and he couldnt hit it from any other angle...he has no offense in the halfcourt...
his defense is solid...he can block shots and seemed to limit his dumb fouls...still, he would be abused by a smart big man who realized that sammy doesnt like to move much from the halfcircle on defense
i say trade him while he has some positive value and use draft picks or cap space on someone with a little less skill but maybe more upside or a guy at a better price

In previous seasons, I absolutely could not bear watching Dalembert play for the Sixers. Now, I am happy that he has progressed. With that said, I would still be very happy if the Sixers moved him for a better player that fills another need(Boozer comes to mind).
We should keep him for the time being. However, if someone offers us a deal we can't resist, Dalembert will be the odd man out.

if you watched dalembert's game and not just his stats you see several careless tendencies, and bone-head plays over the years. at times he has seemed immature, lackadazial, and complacent.
i hate all of those traits and have been very disappointed with sam until this year when i saw several improvements. (some of which may be because the team now limits his options)
1. he has improved his dribbling/passing errors (as in... he now doesnt do much of either)
2. he know outlets the ball quickly and correctly after a rebound
3. he doesnt seem to get as many "dumb" fouls
4. his goaltends seem to have gone down
overall, it was a good year for sam. now if he would just commit to some kind of off-season improvement, he would probably make an all-star game or two

Hi Wonder, Since none of the other posters asked you what team do you root for? I will ask you that question. It really sounds like your not a 76ers fan, but a spy digging for information.

I'm a Timberwolves fan. Being that the Wolves effectively don't have a center at all, a lot of names have popped into different made up trade scenario and Dalembert's was among them. I was just curious if Sixers' fans felt he was a decent center and if his stats were deceiving or not.
So, just a curious fan wondering if Dalembert is any good or not and how Sixers' fans feel about him and if they'd like to see him traded.

d/t the difficulty in filling the center spot, Sam is probably the least likely player to be traded. That being said, Minnesota has a lot of picks and some young talent that it would take to get a young starting center like Sam. If you're trying to picture your lineup with Sam as the starting center, stop thinking about who you would take with the 3rd pick as the deal would most likely have to start with that draft pick.

Sam's play last season really impressed me.He was a force on D,stayed on the floor and rebounded the ball extremely well.
Hopefully he can add a little more offensive consistency, but you can really complain about a double double avg for the season...

If Dalembert's injury, foul, and attitude (didn't he walk off the court once?) are behind him then I could see the Sixers demanding a large fee for him in trade. However, I doubt the Wolves would move the 3rd pick for him.
Honestly, I think the Wolves are one good, defensive center away from becoming a decent (~.450 winning perc) team. They showed growth at the end of last season.
From what any of you have heard are the Sixers looking at retaining their core players since they almost took Detroit to the brink or are they still trying to blow things up, clear cap space, and acquire young players?

He's a pretty good player with some flaws that have been previously mentioned. Honestly, he still scares me a little when he has the ball in his hands.
He's also irreplacable defensively for the Sixers.
When he's out of the game it becomes endless opposing players driving the lane. Sammy is vital to the Sixers defense and we all know what defense wins.
For that reason...I don't think you get Sammy out of Philly with dynamite. With him the Sixers can guard the post 1 on 1 and not get killed. With him opposing players have to think before driving the lane. Great (yeah he's great) defensive centers just don't grow on trees.

The only difference between Dalembert this year and Dalembert in his first 4 years is he has cut down on his mistakes and errors. He's doing things he's always done, just minus the goal tends and pointless TOs.
Although his jump shot is now reliable in the midrange.
It would probably have to involve the Timberwolves 3rd pick to get him, which makes trading him very unlikely.
As said before, a good center in today's NBA is a rare commodity.

Sounds like Dalembert has improved recently and really is a great defensive center. Personally, I'd love to see him in a Minnesota uniform. Someone who frequents our boards has a close contact in the Wolves organization (he's called many trades before they happened) and his contact has heard that Milwauke is shopping Bogut as they're planning on blowing up the team and don't want to sign him to a long term deal. A poster suggested this deal:
Milwauke out: Bogut, Villanueva, #8
Milwauke in: Walker, #3, #16
Minnesota out: Walker, McCants, #3, #31
Minnesota in: Dalembert, #8
Philly out: Dalembert, #16
Philly in: McCants, Bogut, Villanueva, #31
Anyway, Philly should hang on to Dalembert since, as you said, a good NBA center is rare and one that can grab 10+ rebounds and block 2+ shots per game is even more rare.
I was rooting for Philly to knock off Detroit this year. Your team has a bright future.
