Semi OT: Griz target Monta Ellis

Post#1 » by steveb21 » Thu Jun 12, 2008 5:23 pm

It is believed that if Memphis presents Ellis with an offer sheet of more than $10 million, Golden State may be forced to part ways with the guard.

I'm very interested to see what the numbers are here. This could be the offer that sets the market for Igoudala. Also (someone correct me if I'm wrong), it looks like GS may be offering slightly less than what we offered Igoudala last year.

It makes me wonder if Igoudala would take the same offer the second time around...or would he just sign the tender and opt for full free agency next year. If that's the case then we may have no choice but to trade him. This could make the next few weeks very interesting...

Thoughts?

Monta Ellis is better than Iggy. Memphis signing him and trading Gasol for nothing makes absolutely no sense to me. I thought that they were going to commit to the draft. I doubt they sign him.

Reading the GS board, there is a concern that if they have to match a frontloaded offer sheet for Ellis, they may not be able to sign Biedrins.

I don't know if I want tyo go after Biendrins, but he is an interesting option- and might allow us to trade away Sam if we can get Biedrins and another PF/C through a trade or the draft in the next few years. Plus Biendins is 5 years younger trhan Sam.

Biendren's was the "defensive presence" for Golden State, one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA right? It would seem difficult to like Biendren's for anything other than fantasy basketball. :noway: I really don't want him guarding D. Howard, Jefferson, Amare,Yao etc. This guy only averaged 1.2 blocks last season!

I just looked at his games versus all of those players listed above and Biendrens is a joke of a player. Take a look, anyone that is reading this. Take a look at the games here http://www.nba.com/playerfile/andris_bi ... stats.html
Then click on the "results" column during the games where he played against those players and look at his performances, then look at THEIR performances.

Add Boozer, Tim Duncan and Gasol to that list.

This is somewhat related to this thread.... isn't signing day earlier this year?? In the past, teams could negotiate with FAs on 7/1 but they couldn't sign for 2 weeks. For some reason I seem to recall the actual signing date moving up to 7/8 or somewhere around there. Can someone confirm this???

TGP, im not sure, but that question raises another issue with me... who is the sixers #1 target?

because remember... we cant just throw offer sheets out to a few guys and take the first one who signs.... if a player is a restricted FA we have to offer the guy a deal and hope his team doesnt top it... meanwhile we sit on our hands and wait while other players sign with other teams.

GS will probably match Ellis' offer from Memphis and trade him to Memphis for Darko and change. I could see Darko doing well in GS's system. Question is, though, would Memphis do this or even have to?

With Dalembert manning the spot, Biedrins not being a dominant shotblocker at the center position shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not saying that getting Biedrins should be Plan A as he does have some notable flaws like FT shooting, but he also has some notable strengths as well. His career shooting percentage for instance is above 60% and he's a very solid rebounder.

If Golden State is strapped to sign Ellis and Bierdens and stay out of the Tax, I bet they might be willing to give up Al Harrington for nothing...

Or trade away Baron Davis for Andre Miller and net those savings.

What are the thoughts on helping GS stay under the tax by taking something back from them?

It'll never work because Biendrens gets garbage buckets much like the old Sammy before Sammy developed a semi respectable midrange jumpshot. Biendrens has no midrange jump shot evident by only 10% of his shot attempts being jump shots where he only made .271% of those shots. Even Dalembert made .355% of his jump shots. You compound that with the fact that Biendrens gets dominated and taken out of the game ON BOTH ENDS OF THE COURT by the better post players and you have a VERY unattractive player. Sammy needs to be paired with someone that has skill, not just a high energy guy that gets garbage buckets and rebounds nicely although horribly against the best players. Biendrens is a paper warrior, get it?

I don't think he's an ideal fit either and I wouldn't make getting Biedrins my plan A, but I think acting as if he's a horrible player is going overboard. He's only 23 years old and already a solid starter

I agree he should not be their first option. I am intrigued bt the possibility of being ale to trade Sam if we could replace him with Biedrins- but that may be putting the cart before the horse.

Sendem:

For a guy who "knows" so much about every player in the league, you sure do make a habit out of NOT knowing how to spell anyone's name.

"Biendrens" - LMAO - that's a great butcher job.

Aren't you the guy ripping a foreigner in another thread for not knowing how to spell things?

Names don't count. Misspelling common two syllable nouns, verbs, adjectives and creating contractions that aren't to be found in anyone's dictionary is completely different. I'll never care if I spell a bum player's name wrong. Never. :noway: Come back when I misspell Labron, Carmello, or Paul Gasol wrong.

Sorry, but when I'm reading a BASKETBALL message board I expect someone who claims to know every player in the league, to know how to spell their name right.

So quick to criticize others, but so unwilling to accept it when pointed in your direction....

The Sixer Fixer, you would probably not enjoy conversing with great basketball minds in real life because these guys would not even get to spelling a player's name wrong THEY WOULDN'T EVEN REMEMBER OR KNOW HOW TO PRONOUNCE A PLAYER'S NAME. But, could break down everything about that player's game. There's no google search engine offline. If only a player having his name known made him skilled or knowing a name were good enough to make a basketball mind credible. No one cares about BienDRENS name but his momma, his girl, people that are PAID to know, and people who want to attempt to get one over on ol' SendEm. I will continue to spell the name of bum basketball players wrong into perpetuity. Thank you very much.
