Sixersfan1976: Where are you?

Post#1 » by Sandalf42 » Sat Jun 21, 2008 3:08 am

As the draft is just around the bend, I think it'd be a good idea to open a thread where we can find sixersfan1976 insight easily instead of scouring the forum for his name.

Not saying he has to or anything, and if he is already making posts in a different thread, I apologize and could someone please direct me to the thread and page.

Thanks.

Sixerfan is the local neighborhood super hero, He kinda comes around only when needed.

But if anyone wants to help me design a sixerfan signal somewhat similar to the batman signal I'm all for it.
Walk the city lonely
Memories that haunt are passing by
A murderer walks your streets tonight
Forgive me for my crimes;don't forget that I was so young
Fought so scared in the name of God and Country

I could go with a sixersfan signal.

Right as the Sixers homepage comes up, they'll be a big flashing green light on the right side and it'll show sixersfan latest posts.

Btw, whats up with this new set-up on the site? The new topics dont show up on the homepage, so i have to click on "view more from this board" to see whats going on.

here is what i know at this point....subject to change as more workouts occur this week

Speights and Koustus are 1 and 1A right now on our board.....Arthur we have in consideration too as long as he works out well..and Thompson can get involved in discussion if he has good workout as well.

If Speights and Koustus are gone..we may trade down to early 20's and get a Thompson, McGee or Jordan.

We dont feel Mcgee or Jordan are worthy of a pick at 16.

We will probably buy/acquire a 2nd round pick to get a project PG or shooter.

Draft probably will be boring in that we will sit and wait for our pick and take the best big man on our board.

July 1..we will go after by FA or trade.in roughly this order below.....the following players should they be available.
Brand
Jo. Smith
Marion
Jamison

If none of those are attainable..we still have Z-Bo as an option without draft rights from anyone in this years draft involved.

I was on board until I got past the name Smith. After that it was like progressing down further stages of H ell, with the option just hurting the Sixers more and more.

Ok. That's pretty much what we already know as well......lol.

So nothing truly exciting will happen and we won't make any bold moves and we will be here next year roughly this time saying "who will we take with the 17th pick?"

So what a minute....was the Z-Bo/6th pick deal really ever even considered? Or was it made up?

Or did NY just say hell no when we threw that offer out?

I read the Z-Bo thing fell apart due to disagreement over the players involved...like early last week or something. Any truth to that?

I'm a big Koufos guy...so that would be just fine by me!

And my usual Sixerfan question.....here it comes...

....Any other buzz you're hearing....even non-Sixer?

it was being considered...but the Knicks want a point guard and will take best available PG instead at 6.

We seem to think we can get a better PF than Z-Bo and want to try that route post July 1 first....dont want to throw our eggs in another basket before we figure out what we can get first.

We would have given Evans or Green...but tried to make it Green..but I dont think it was a deal breaker....I think the Knicks wanted to get their point guard..thats what I was told was the reason the Knicks decided to wait..plus we really think we can get a better PF than Randolph with our July 1 cap space.

I dont have any non sixer information...dont know anyone outside the sixers....only way i get non sixer info is if i hear it in passing from my buddy.

i expect it to be a quiet draft for us...pick where we are slotted..or maybe trade back a few if our guys arent there....gain a project guard in 2nd round...then really go balls in post July 1.

I really hope we pick Speights over Koufos. I keep having these horrible flashbacks of Efthimios Rentzias...

I have no problem with going after Marion or Janison as long as it is done with restraint. For the right $ figure and right number of years either guy can be veru useful, but neither is worth max money or years. presumably since they are lower on th list they are viewed in the same light by the Sixers powers that be.

Thanks for the info. It's nice to hear that Mareese Speights is tops on our board.

But if we do get Mareese Speights in the draft, are we still going to go after a veteran PF?

I wouldn't mind trying to get Elton Brand but other then that I would not consider the other players mentioned.

Thanks for the info. Sixerfan. Count me in as at least intrigued by having Speights as at or near the top of the board. He clearly has his warts, but he is the type of player to me that is worth the risk at #16. Not much before that might you, but in the middle to latter stages of the first round, you take some gambles.

As for having A. Jamison on the PF list, that I do not get because of his age. If it comes to that, I think Philly should consider just holding its cap room and waiting. Anything that Stefanski is pursuing on the tradefront that you are aware of Sixerfan (i.e. C. Wilcox or someone like that)?

I would doubt either would sign to just a 3 year deal. They are up for there last big payday, and will be looking for a 4-5 yar commitment.

If they sign to 3yr/10M I guess I would be fine with it, but it might close the door to the chance of picking up someone more suitable during those 3 years.

If we go with a band-aid, I would rather try to get a 1 year rental like Sheed or Odom, and then maybe extend them if the team goes far in the playoffs. 3 years or more ofor a less han perfect fit ties our hands.

And Speights gives me flashbacks of Sharone Wright, Anthony Randolph has some definite Eddie Griffin possibilities, Jordan might be the next Desagna Diop, etc. All of the guys at this point of the draft have potential downsides to at least match their potential upside. Not that I am a huge fan of Koufos, but if our free agent/trade plan is to go after a major low post guy, than having a high post center like Koufos to back-up Sammy is not a bad idea. if we somehow get a more perimeter oriented PF like Smith or to some extent Marion, than one way or another we will need to exchange out Sammy or at least back him up with a low-post scorer at center.

I'm curious about one thing...it seems like we want to go big in the draft and go after a FA big as well. Do they see whoever they pick at #16 as more of a project and not making an impact right away? And where does Jason Smith fit into the scheme of things?

He might fit into a S&T for one of the aforementioned FA/RFA power forwards or Reggie Evans might be moved the same way. Best case scenario is that we pick up a good big in the draft and S&T for a FA, IMO. Whomever is leftover between our draft choice, Regge and Jason will team with Sammy and our FA acquisition to form our four-deep big man rotation.
