JO to the Raptors!...

Post#1 » by PhilasFinest » Wed Jun 25, 2008 10:32 pm

according to the wiretap JO is headed to the Raps for Ford,Rasho and #17.
Hes nowhere near the player he was and is always getting hurt but him and Bosh are going to be tough to stop @ the 4 and 5...add in there strong perimeter shooting and the Raptors just made themselves alot better in the East...not giving up much because they have Calderon @ PG.

A nice gamble for the Raps... does this mean Augustin may slip a bit now that Indy has a new PG?

I love what Indiana got for him. O'Neal hasn't been healthy is 4 years and has a lot of miles on that body so I don't believe he has much left in the tank. Ford should be a nice fit in JOB's system and they picked up another pick.

Rasho completely outplayed Bargnani down the stretch last year and made a nice late season pick-up for my fantasy team.

Deal made a lot of sense. Major injury issues surrounding both O'Neal and Ford so it was only fitting that they are traded for eachother.

A duo of Bosh and a O'Neal, if healthy, would be pretty sick. But that's a big if, considering he hasn't really been healthy in 3-4 years, and he is past his prime as well. But Toronto still has Calderon so it isn't a big loss. Solid return for the Pacers as well.

Here's a stat I love about this trade for our divisional foes.

Games Missed by Jermaine O'Neal
07-08: 40 games
06-07: 13 games
05-06: 31 games
04-05: 38 games

Salary for Jermaine O'Neal
08-09: $21.3 Million
09-10: $22.9 Million

I might be wrong, but that's a bad combo, right??

Only if history repeats itself.

One of those years he missed a lot of games was the suspension year, right?

So 2 out of the last 4 years he's missed major time due to injuries. If he doesn't miss major time this year, the Raptors could be very good. He is still only 29.

29 now but 30 by the start of the season. Listen, if he plays and is healthy then this should be a really good deal for the Raps. All I'm saying is that the man hasn''t shown himself to be able to stay healthy the last few years. I don't wish injury on anyone and so hopefully he'll make it through.

Also, I do suppose that this effects Augustin' future as well. A lot of people had him going to Indiana at #11.

I also don't consider a 2 year deal to be bad. If things don't work out, they can get out of his contract relatively quickly (in NBA terms).

So in TOR minds, if all goes well their #1 overall pick, if kept, doesn't start for a long time.

Indiana better not take Arthur now.

I could still see Augustin being taken by either the Kings or Suns. But would we or should we take him if he fell to us? It all depends on how we feel about Louis Williams...

So actually what this trade comes down too is Charlie Villanueva and change for Jermaine. Nice move for the Raps :)

I think they'll now be more likely to go after either Koufos or Robin Lopez with the #11 and a PF with the #17.

This could really change the course of the draft. Indiana will probably now go big at 11 which will take away one of Speights/Arthur more than likely, and Augustin will probably be taken by the Suns.

This just made this draft much more difficult to mock.

Could be a great deal for both teams if it pans out, but I still think the Raptors are missing a go-to perimeter player.

Yeah Raptors got a steal imo. They consolidate 3 years with 8.5 in the 3rd for 2 years and end up paying about the same amount of money cash-wise taking into account the 1st rounder. Wasn't Ford just contemplating retirement?

If JO doesn't work out, you have 8.5 million more in flexibility to work with.

Not sure why the Pacers should like it. They get a pick... but you can just buy one of them... right? They take on more long term salary, which is a bad thing. I think they just wanted for the JO era to end officially.

I think they will take a big at #17 for sure. At #11, they take best available straight up. Might be a home coming for Eric Gordon...
