Philly Contingent at MSG - Who's Going?

Post#1 » by Fire BK » Thu Jun 26, 2008 5:08 am

Greetings my fellow die-hards,

I was lucky enough to secure some tickets to the draft tomorrow night in NYC... I'll be cheering loudly if/when the Sixers take Speights at 16... I thought Koufos was the pick until IND shipped JO tonight... But now, I agree with DX that Larry Bird will snatch Koufos at 11... Which probably leaves Speights as the BBA...

Anyways, I'm wondering if any other posters will be in the building??? If so, I'd love to meetup and talk draft all night long... Since we'll be in enemy territory, I'm all about strength in numbers... Also, we can make more noise in a group. I'll be rocking a fire-engine red Sixers Starter sweatshirt from the early 90's... Also, dabods has my email in case you want to coordinate.

Also, has anyone else ever attended an NBA draft before? Is it all general admission? Good times? Too much downtime? Can you hear the ESPN guys? Should I come equipped with a flask? Look forward to hearing your insights... I'll be away from the computer until about 4:30PM tomorrow. Cheers.

I've never had interest in going to drafts. Even the NFL which is my favorite. I like watching it at home getting some good food and relaxing.

One of these years I want to, but this year would be tough. It's hard for me to get off of work to stand in line for tickets, and I need to be around a computer this evening for draftexpres.

I used to go religously and make a day out of it with my buddies... Unfortunately job responsiblities increase, you get married, have children, and while you plan to watch the entire draft and know it won't happen, you pray the the entire time the sixers are on the clock isn't interrupted...

Go up it's a good time... All general admission... Tickets used to go on sale at noon on the day of the draft and weren't more than $10... The only down side is dealing with all the Knicks fans...

I have no idea what it's never really dawned on me to get a group of guys together and go watch it up in NYC.... I guess it's because the TV coverage is pretty damn solid and so I wonder if you end up missing out on some of the behind the scenes rumors in you're in attendance.

Either way, have a great time and be sure to cheer loudly when Arthur makes his way to the stage and puts that Sixer cap on! :-)

I prefer to be in a position to stay updated on rumors, look up player bios, and get some opinions on each pick. However, Screamin A. Smith is really annoying and makes the TV broadcast much less enjoyable for me.

How did you become a 76ers fan, since you are 100 miles from us in South Philadelphia ? I think your boy Sendem is also from NY. I want Speights or Thompson , then sign my boy Josh Smith.

Ha, man, I aint no New Yorker, believe you me.... Born on Broad Street, grew up in Cheltenham, then moved to Abington from grades 2-12.... Moved up to NYC for school because CUNY is the only public interest law school in the country. I've finished 2 out of 3 years, and have no intentions of taking the NY bar. Philly all the way, homeboy. I'll be 28 in August, so I've been a die-hard Sixers fan since the days of Thump+Bump, G-man, Hawk+Dawk, and Ron Anderson/ Scotty Brooks off the bench... Just to clear the record.

Anyways, thanks for all your feedback about attending the draft... I'm almost there, Philbe311, so I figured this is one of my last chances to do it... I'm bracing myself for all the Knicks fans, and I'm bringing an old buddy from the neighborhood, so I promise we'll make you guys proud. Will definitely cheer loudly if the Sixers take TGP himself, aka double zero, because I agree that would be a solid pick. Never hurts to bring a winner on board. I'm afraid he might be gone to Indy at 12 or GS at 14, however. Otherwise, he's all ours for the taking IMO.

This is my favorite night in the sports year. It's my superbowl, my world series and stanley cup rolled into one. Growing up a Sixers fan, we've been bred to anticipate the draft as our main event. It's in my blood. I think I cried the night they took Shawn Bradley as a hopeful 13 yr-old. Anyways, I get a great feeling about tonight for our squad, as a seemingly capable big man will appear to fall to 16. I'm on the Speights train, but I'm okay w/ Arthur or even DJ too. Here we go! Off to the train! Have a blast on the boards, guys. Enjoy.
