That seems to indicate July 9th to go along with a previous post.

Under 33 hours until Free Agency starts. Doesn't GSW $10MIL trade exception expire tonight or tomorrow??

The Warriors trade exemption expires tomorrow. Somebody is repeating stuff I said on another board.

I like the idea that Herbert Hill is now on the team roster for 2008-2009 for what it's worth. It's sickening to see the names of Booth, LA, Ollie and Shavlik on the roster for 2008-2009. Hopefully Shavlik and Ollie can be wiped out in a week or less, but we are stuck with Booth thanks to Big Billy . :D :)

24 hours to go. Hopefully there will be some reports on Tuesday from SF76 about who we contacted at midnight and what the status is.

im actually growing more and more fond with the idea that we just hold onto the cap space and save it till next year or 2010 to get a big time player and allow our team to just play and get better through it.

i wouldnt mind seeing us try and move Willie or something for CV...try him out and if he doesnt workout out u dot resign him.

It does not work that way. If the 76ers sign Lou Williams and Iggy to long term contracts, then all that space woudl be gone, so then their only option would be the cap space from Miller. It's better to use the 11 million now, then go over the cap with Lou and Iggy, which would allow the 76ers to use the MLE . Right now the 76ers can not use the MLE since they are under the cap. I do not want to play for 2010.

Not necessarily. Igudoala currently has a cap hold of 8 million. So even if he signs an 11 million deal for next year, we still can carry over ca 8 million in additional cap space if we don't use it this year.

Okay. I was going by what John Nash said today. Personally, I would rather be wrong on this one. Nash was never much of a GM anyway. :D :)

July 9 is the date the salary cap is released as well. Extremely important.

A higher than expected cap like 59.5 million would immediately raise the amount of cap space the Sixers would have. A lower than projected cap like 57.5 million would be devastating to any chances of getting Brand. That is over a 10 million dollar swing in the amount the Sixers could offer a potential big name free agent over the course of a 5 year deal.

to add to this... people get caught up in the thought that expiring contracts "create" cap space when they don't in and of themselves. The Knicks have a 21 million dollar expiring contract in Starbury, but they will be over the cap next year anyway thanks largely to Mr. Thomas.

The amount that matters is how much salary a team has against the cap, also taking into account cap holds from RFAs and 1st round picks. The Sixers have cap holds or 8.4 and 1.0 million dollars for Iggy and Lou respectively. That is how much they count against the cap for this offseason.

Next offseason, their actual salaries will be what is counted against the cap.(12 and 4.5 is a solid estimate) Next offseason, the Sixers gain 10 million in cap space, but lose 7 million more due to Iggy and Lou being counted fully against the cap. Salary increases will likely be almost completely offset by the increase in the cap meaning the Sixers are likely to have more cap space(15+ million at first glance) than this offseason if they stay put and don't go giving multi-year deals to scrubs like Craig Smith or Turiaf.

considering the date, maybe the first post should be edited to include the first preseason game :)
