Antwan Jamison or Rasheed Wallace over Josh Smith

Post#1 » by Kman25 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 6:48 pm

Wouldnt the Sixers try to get to legitimate PF Wallace or Jamison(both Allstars) who are old enough they would only be here a few years and wouldnt be here for more than 3 years and could help out Speights instead of going after a 22 year old Tweener F like Josh Smith

I personally despise old players. They are just ticking time bombs. So I would go with Josh Smith so he has the chance to stay here for a long time.

Please no...Jamison is too small for a PF, and Wallace is Wallace. Put Jamison's head on Wallace's body, and I'm in...otherwise it doesn't get this team any closer to the prize.

Ed did compare Speights to Sheed in his Press Conference and on WIP

I'd still pursue a long term solution in Brand, Smith, or Okafor.... but if we strike out there, I wouldn't be opposed to signing Jamison to a 3 year deal.

I would go after Sheed if we strike out with guys like Smith, Brand, and Okafor. The problem with Wallace is that we would have to trade for him and I imagine the cost would be pretty high.

I'd have a lot of interest in both Sheed and Jamison, but it really depends on contract length with Jamison and what we would have to give up to get Sheed.

I don't want Sheed, because he is a buffoon. I'd rather have Jamison, but for no more than 3/4 years.

Biedrens is still the guy for me. This isn't a 'now' team, and risking a ton on Wallace makes no sense, nor does getting an undersized Jamison.

If Smith played a more traditional PF role, I'd be all in, but I don't know if he's going to mature into that.

Exactly. I think having a developmental guy like Speights who has future starting potential makes Jamison a more realistic possibility on a shorter deal. Having size off of the bench in Speights and Smith also makes it easier to counter any matchup problems against bigger teams that Jamison might encounter. He's not my first choice, but I am more comfortable with a guy like Jamison or Marion with Speights being groomed.

I don't think we have what Detroit wants for 'Sheed, and - if we can't get Brand or JSmith - I think I would rather pursue getting Hinrich (and trading Miller) to signing Jamison. It's the same argument that some on this board had about Miller (an argument that I used to fight, but watching him run out of gas against the Pistons, an argument that I think now has merit) - by the time the rest of this team is ready to win, Jamison is going to be on the downside. Hinrich is only 27 - he still should have several high-quality years left in the tank.

despite sheeds hot head, i bet he would be a great teamate and mentor for sam and speights as far as tutoring them on the ways of nba defense. for all of his problems, no teamates have ever complained about him. it would be interesting to see them trade for him and then have him resign for a reasonable contract for a year or two (5 mill a year?) since he is from the area.

but dumars is pretty smart. it would probably take carney/smith and next years pick to get him, MINIMUM. thats not much to give up, but its future assetts which can be valuble

Other PF options that we haven't talked about in awhile include: Brandon Wright, Charlie Villanueva, Chris Wilcox, Drew Gooden, and Lamar Odom.

Do any of these guys do anything for you???

Wright is still a project with huge upside but he might be as far away as Speights... maybe further given body size.

Villanueva just doesn't seem like a good fit with Skiles even though Yi is gone. I just can't see the Bucks keeping him for that long.

Wilcox has never really done that much for me but he's a nice player. I don't think he's a long-term answer but some might.

Gooden is another guy who I think could be had for relatively cheap. He does have an expiring contract which makes him a little more likeable but there's a reason he's played on 4 teams in 5 years.

Odom used to be someone I wanted but now that he's 29 and the upside is all but gone... I'm not so sure. Like Wilcox and Gooden, he's an expiring contract so it's not as though he'd hurt our cap in the future.

Thoughts???

well, what goes unsaid is that it includes cap room. A LOT of it... granted its only a year early because his deal would be ending, but assuming they arent going to trade him, they are going to let him walk away for nothing. so they can take some future peices, or get nothing. besides evans i dont know what else they would actually want from us. contrary to what people think, they arent going to let us dump willie green on them.

if they are actually thinking about moving sheed, a young wing player and or big man for their bench and what will probably be a midround pick, plus about ten million dollars is a good deal

We got by last season with Evans and Thad playing the 4 - and we still made the playoffs. This season, we should have Hill back as well as Speights. I would rather take a SF/PF tweener like Josh Smith and let the PF's we already have battle it out. My biggest concern would now be getting a sharpshooter - James Jones perhaps, and a backup 5 with real size to go up against Dwight Howard in case we meet them in the playoffs.
