Re: Maggette too old for the Sixers?
No.. but Sixers has too many wing players. I mean, where will you insert him in our starting unit? I doubt that he'll be willing to play off the bench. The only way I can see Corey playing with the Sixers if Sixers can do a sign and trade with Iguodala. Maybe Iguodala + Carney + Capspace for Corey and Elton.

Re: Maggette too old for the Sixers?
The biggest appeal of maggette is his ability to get to the free throw line. Thats huge for a team who struggles in the half court set and corey does it as good as the best of them

Maggette hitting the market should lower Iggy's value.

...who cares, we arent trading Iguodala.
anyway i would sign Mags under a couple conditions.
1. We arent able to acquire: Brand, Smith, Marion, Jamison.
2. We are able to acquire: Chris Wilcox/Drew Gooden/exp PF capable of starting, for Evans and a first.
3. He takes a deal no more than to 5 years/30-35 mil.
a 6 man rotation of
Dalembert
Wilcox
Thad
Iguodala
Miller
6:Maggatte
is beast and now that i think about it i would probably take it over...
Dalembert
Randolph
Thad
Iguodala
Miller
6:Williams

Re: Maggette too old for the Sixers?
no, that's not the problem.the problem is that he is a sf and we already have a star sf in iggy, a future star in thad young and a decent sf in rodney carney.

Re: Maggette too old for the Sixers?
We need to renounce Iggy's rights. We already have Thad. James Posey type players are always available. Why do we want to sign Iggy to a big time contract when he is less valuable to a CHIP team than James Posey? Sure Iggy puts up huge stats in comparison to Posey, but Posey brings more CHIP type skills to the table like being able to hit the 3 and defend the SG/SF position better than Iggy. Iggy just manages to put up better numbers because he is a #1 option with a green light. Give me the young James Posey and his minor salary over Iggy and his huge salary demands any day of the week. I'll use the money saved on a player better than both of them...

We care. It affects contracts he might get offered.
I actually like Maggette, probably more than most. He'd be hard to fit in without moving Iguodala or Thad. And even if we move Iguodala, him and Thad aren't the best fit.

wow. your hatred for Iguodala is amazing. I can not beleive i just read that. James Posey is not on Andre Iguodala's LEVEL.

I would not mind posey for the right price. But, the dude has bounced around the league for a reason. I'm not saying he is joe smith, but he has been around so he has some holes in his game. Until we get the starting power forward, Iggy and everybody else will have to wait.

Re: Maggette too old for the Sixers?
Mark Stein ( the guys who broke the Davis deal) said taht we are interested in Cory and that we would probally start Thad at the 4 again. I like Maggette ( despite his Dukeness) and if we strike out on JSmooth i'd rather that than a bum.

I wouldn't call him a sharpshooter just yet. He had one good year of shooting, out of a career of inconsistency. He's always shot his jumpshot way too strong, a la Lamar Odom, and it's not reliable. He makes his living by driving straight to the basket.

He's the definition of an average 3 point shooter. His value is his ability to get to the basket and draw fouls while being an automatic free throw shooter. We don't have much of that on the Sixers moving forward. Lou Williams is the only guy on the roster with that sort of potential, but there is nothing like having a 6'6" 225 lbs guy that can do it. I believe that Maggette can improve his 3 point shot if that is something that is stressed at the beginning of the season. Other than like I like him as the driving free throw shooter that he is.

Re: Maggette too old for the Sixers?
Question for the Sixers has to be, exactly how big is Thaddeus Young? Is he a legitimate 6-8 that could still possibly become 6-9 and get larger to become an athletic PF (his rebounding is not lacking and he won't be facing amazing PFs who can back him down). Or he is one of the NBA's 6-6/6-7 players who receive a larger height rating than they should.
If he's the former I wouldn't hesitate to put a guy who could still hit 6-9 and gain bulk to 235 lbs at PF. He'd give you so many options and make you a great and athletic team. Otherwise though I'd keep him at SF and go elsewhere than Maggs.

Re: Maggette too old for the Sixers?
He's not 6'6" like Jordan and Iggy and he's not in that 6'8"-6'9" range like McGrady, Josh Smith and Lebron James. Thad is in that legit 6'7"-6'8" area like Pippen and Vince Carter. Also he has the long arms to go with it. With all of that said there isn't a future with Thad at PF, teams do not win championships that way.
