Sorry for the new thread, but didn't want it to get lost since I consider it big news.

So what does this all mean? Is he opting out to get more money from the Clippers, or is he looking to get out of there?

i don't really see why he'd want to leave and if he did, why he would come to philadelphia. but if this means that the sixers have even a 1% chance of signing him, then good. that's 1% more than if he didn't opt out.

Don't kid yourself. Joe Pesci made Brand opt out.

Sorry "will Brand opt out?" has been a burning question for the last few months. I posted it in the FA thread first, but figured it was worth it's own thread to ensure it stood out to people. If a mod wants to merge this with the FA thread, I have no issues with that.

That's very possible. It also possible he will use the Clippers to get more $$ from Philly.

His agent could say to LA, he's going to sign with Philly starting at 11...do you guys want to work with Philly on a S/T to get something in return? That could allow us to send a few players to LA and thus work a S/T which would allow Brand to get more than 11 mil in yr 1.

Jason Smith, Carney, future #1, whatever. I would give up virtually anyone on the team if it meant we got Brand. I'd trade Iguodala straight up 1 for 1 for Brand. Elton Brand types are WAY harder to find than Iguodala types in the NBA.

Great news! Double great news!

He's opted out to secure his future and maybe win a ring or two. A 16M deal. Why didn't he just stay? Because the Clips don't want to give him another big contract. It is and always has been that simple.

Man oh man, even though he's not here yet I'm ready to run over to Modell's and get my Brand Sixers (42) jersey!

When he actually arrives no one will be happier than me.

If we traded Iggy for him, why the hell not sign Maggette too. Then sign Livingston to be maybe the future Pg in a couple of years. The 3 best players on the clippers come to Philly tnat would be hilarious.

I'm a fan of Iggy, but I think I'd do this as well if absolutely necessary.

The bonus of doing the swap this way is that you'd likely still have enough cap room left over to try and go after Ellis (or Childress as a backup plan).

WHAT?

29 year old 6'8 PF's coming off MAJOR surgery, who are suspect in terms of age and ability and years remaining, are harder to come by then athletic, defensive minded 6'7 24 year old SG/SF's who can score when needed and have had no injury issues or durability issues?

Well, maybe they are harder to find...but does that mean they are better or worth max money??

Hell no, and no thanks! I am NOT going to be happy if he is signed or traded for UNLESS he takes us to an NBA Finals series. Otherwise, it is a huge mistake. And it isn't all that much of a stretch to imagine us still being mediocre for the next 3-4 years with this guy.
