Brand and Agent in Philly

Brand's agent, David Falk, could not be reached, though sources said the pair was in Philadelphia on Thursday hoping to lure the Sixers into the bidding. League sources said that Brand is ultimately expected to join Davis in Los Angeles.

The only way I see the Sixers being a serious bidder is and match what the Warriors max deal is by renouncing Iguodala to free up more cap space. Of course if I was Philly, I wouldn't do that unless you're guaranteed that Brand signs.

Nice find. Ed is playing out all the options

No, he isn't. If you read that carefully, you will see it says they are trying to LURE PHILLY into making an offer. Somehow I think Ed will make one, but it will not be as nice as GS's. And Brand won't even waste another minute in Philly. The only way we come close is to make more room. And if we can't trade WG or Evans for space, and if Brand and his agent can't help us do that, then we WON'T be offering him anything close to GS's offer. And I honestly think that is exactly how Ed will handle it. They call up, maybe make a meeting. Ed tells em straight up, "Look, we can't get rid of WG or RE so we simply don't have the money that the other teams do. And we aren't willing to let Iggy walk. Period." And then they say, "Ok thanks for wasting our time. Bubye."

Now, on the other hand, if we decide to play the game, assuming he may or may not actually sign that damned piece of paper, we MAY decide to do a S&T deal with Iggy being involved to go to GS for some of their cap space and a player. In which case, we can make a better offer to Brand and potentially sign him. But then we don't get Smith and have no SG, leaving us to try to sign Maggette.

And I'm not one for pointing out the obvious...but if Brand/Maggette didn't work for the LAC, why would it work here?

Slim chance any of that happens, but then again, who knows?

If I was Ed, I wouldn't be used by Brand and his agent to get a better deal from the Clippers. The one thing I noticed is that Brand approaching Philly and not the other way around.

First off, why would they go to the Sixers for a deal comparable to the Clippers? There's no point going to the Sixers if the you don't think you can get a deal close to the Warriors. It would be a waste of time. The question becomes is it worth getting a low post player like Brand if it meant giving up Iggy.

I don't see why Brand and Maggette wouldn't work. Western conference has always been tougher than the East so making the playoffs would be a lot easier.

Again, nothing is set in stone but it makes interesting talk.

Meh, Brand is a smart cookie.. He is just taking some time before he signs with the clippers so that the league doesn't think that it was a setup between Brand, Davis and the clippers.. Brand is just trying to get as many offers as he can just so that ppl get the impression that he seriously considered alternatives before deciding to for clippers' offer..

Perhaps the Clippers have indicated that GS won't do a S&T with them, but Philly will. So if Brand wants to leave, at least check out Philly so the Clips could get some value for Brand. It may be a loyalty thing for to the Clips in a weird way.

I don't think the S&T would be anything major from our end, draft picks and Evans/Smith. Maybe Lou Will S&T.

I agree. Brand hasn't accepted or rejected that GS offer and it's because he's exploring all of his options as I would if I were him. So he came here instead of being invited. We don't know that for sure. Do we believe EVERYTHING we read?

He's here to get a wedge offer? He's not Bobby Bonilla. I think the Sixers can pull off a S&T giving Brand his money without renouncing Igoudala (how foolish would that be anyway?)

As I said in the other thread Clips don't want to lose thier star to a division rival and for nothing in return. Sixers are the ONLY other player who can pull this off, meaning giving the Clips face saving with cap room, player to be named and/or draft rights.

I would love to see Brand come here... but I just think Falk is playing the game right now. I'd put our chances of landing Brand at about 2%.

2%? Might as well be 0% :D

I'm still hitting that snooze bar. I can't help but continue to believe Brand is the perfect guy for us and Smith, well not so perfect. When will we ever have this kind of cash to spend again?

The only possible way for the Sixers to get into the Brand derby based on how much GSW threw at him is if they rescind their rights to Iggy and then give Brand a huge offer. The major problem with that is I think it's obvious to most (and the Sixers front office I hope) that Brand and his agent are just trying to drive up his value to get the Clippers to then increase their offer.

If the Sixers made any type of big contract offer to Brand it would immediately get leaked by Brand's people and then Iggy's people would know that they were willing to cut ties with him for Brand. So that would then make negotations between Iggy and the Sixers more heated.

To sum it up Brand = Bobby Bonilla, Sixers = Phillies. Thinking anything else is just wishful dreaming.

Agreed, but you better have multiple doctors check him out before we even attempt to tie him up at an obscene amount of money for the next 6 years...

Sign Childress to an offer sheet and then sign and trade Iggy for Brand???

Well, you guys could trade away some contract for more cap to sign both Brand and Iggy to the max or close to it. Say, Carney and Evans to Phx or GS for their trade exception.

I think he's not only taking time but buying time. Once the new cap figures come in, he'll get a better offer from the Clips. It also gives them some time to pick up some additional cap space by trading a player for either no salary or a lesser salary. I posted this elsewhere but if Josh Smith is matched by Atlanta after we make an offer, I see no reason for Philly not to sell off a small portion of cap space (Brevin Knight @1.7 million would work) so that the Clips can give Brand a higher salary. Philly could ask for DeAndre Jordan as the cost of using that cap space & would still have around $10 million left available for another signing or deal.

I think you've got the right idea.
