Why I like the Krstic-idea

Rumours about the Sixers looking at Krstic.
I like this idea a lot, much more than overpaying for another flyer (like Smith) or overpaying an older PF who's to old for this team (Brand).
1) the guy is still young
2) the guy complements Dalembert and Speights good
3) he can play PF and C (and therefore point 2)
4) we can get him cheap, there are rumours about Carney + Booth + some cash that can work. That way we can keep our cap for another player (shooter?). I think 15.000.000 for 3 years Krstic could do it.
5) if it works out well, and Speights becomes a good starting (and strong) PF, like Horford/West/Okafor (maybe not so good, but a decent 4), we can use Dalembert as a trade asset for a superstar (we still have a lot of capspace to use either) and we have Krstic and Smith as back-ups.
on the other side:
1) the guy is not a great defender
2) injuries
but if we could get him for about 15 million and 3 years, we're not screwing ourselves, we have versatility in the frontcourt and we keep a lot of money to use on other needs.

Health is my main concern with Kristic...he did not play well last season, and looked very limited physically. A good exam can clear his knee, and usually you are better in year 2 post ACL than year 1, so he may be a very good value. Thorn is a smart though, and I don't think you get him for $5/year...would probably be a s/t, or they keep him.

I dont think there's anyway that the Net's are bringing back Kristic; all you have to do is look at their offseason. They added, Yi, Lopez, and Anderson to the frontcourt, so paying for Kristic doesnt make sense.

The reason I don't like Kristic is because THIS CAP SPACE WE HAVE IS OUR ONLY WAY OUT OF THIS MEDIOCRITY CURSE WE'RE EXPERIENCING SINCE DR.J's LAST CHAMPIONSHIP WITH THE SIXERS.

How can we get a franchise player? Do we get it in Kristic? I mean, signing him more the 3m/year would INSTANTLY make him a liability than an asset. (i.e Kevin Ollie, Willie Green, and AI2 (once he get his contract).

The Nets are trying to clear up cap space for the 2010/2011 off-season to make a run at Lebron, Wade, etc. They've offered a QO to Krstic & would like something in return but are only interested in players with 1-2 years or in re-signing Krstic to a 1-2 year contract. I don't think that will be easy for them to do so he should be easy to grab with a 3-4 year contract. The question is how much do you offer? I'd say he should be down there as Plan C or Plan D for the Sixers.

It could be plan D. He had offensive skills before the injury, but will he ever heal ? I already think Ed has plan B in place, if the Josh signing fails.
P.S- The 76ers need to remove Dee Lynam from the sidelines and replace her with Julie Banderas or Rebecca Gomez.. Go 76ers!

I am not a big Kristic fan but if the price is right, I would certainly be interested. With him, I think one of the key factors would be the length of his contract. I wouldn't go over more than 3 years with him.

They say Kristc can't step on the court without being in extreme pain and that he doesn't know how to deal with it and it makes him play poorly.
I can think of a better use of $15 million.
It's not something that doctors examining his knee will go, "oh, this doesn't look good." His knee is fine, he had the surgery, he just can't deal with the pain.

Id rather have Smith and Speights gain experience through playing and save the cap space than waste it on a useless filler in Kristic...

ditto here. I think Speights needs all the court time he can get this year, really thinking he'll have a good under the radar rookie year.

Beacause Speights admitted himself that he had issues with fitness/training I don't want anything handed to him. The more competition the better. Krisitic is intriguing in that he is very talented and we can probably fit both him and Maggette under the cap. I also believe you can never have enough quality big men. If we landed Maggs and Kristic I'd be o.k.

Krstic was very good in NJ prior to his injury. If he's even 80% of what he was prior to the injury, I'll be happy with.
However, I'm not sure about how much I would pay him. If he rejects his qualifying offer of 2.7 mill, then he'll probably want something in the 4 mill area. That might not be something I would spend on a guy with leg issues, especially in a fast break offense the Sixers have.
