Iverson and Barkley comments on the Brand move
Just in case anyone is interested, both ex-Sixers greats(and my personal favorite and second favorite all-time Sixers) commented on the Sixers signing Brand.
Barkley said that no one knows what went on behind the scenes, but the fact is Brand was a free agent and could sign where he wanted to. If he wanted to win, he made the right choice going to Philly. He said that whether or not he made a verbal commitment, no one knows, but at the end of the day he has to do what is right for him.
AI said that if he had to give Brand any advice, it would be to play every game like it is your last and the Philly fans will love you. He said he knows Brand is that type of player and will play that way. Said Philly fans are the best in the world, and the Sixers got a diamond in Brand.
I looked for video clips, but couldn't find any. They might pop up on CSN's website later.

I think Iverson misses it here. Just I guess since he said we're the best fans in the world and kissed the 76ers logo when he came back. But Im glad to see both ex-sixers liked the move. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this team.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards
George/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Bona/Drummond/Broome

Best fans in the world. No question. Anyone with this continued passion after 25 years of not winning anything is a real fan.

I really hope that AI can win a championship with Elton Brand in philly
That would be every 76ers fans' dream right now.

There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

The championship part. Not so much the win with AI part. It would be nice, but it'll be sort of cheap if he comes back here and wins it. It is akin to how I feel the Boston win was a little cheap with 3 superstars (cheap for the 3 superstars, not for the Celtics) coming together to win one (same thing with the Laker attempt in 04).
It is the reason why a guy like Reggie Miller gets so much respect in my book. He stayed with one team and didn't move around and chase that ring. He was either going to get it where he was or not at all.

Don't you think that you are discrediting the importance of playing for a team that has a GM that's capable of putting together a NBA Finals winning team? The players just do the best that they can with who the GM of the team puts on the roster. I can't fault a player "chasing a championship" during his free agency while that is a time in his life where he can finally be the GM of his own career. Also I can not overlook the major part that a coach has in getting a team successfully through the NBA Finals.
I love it when a player takes the power within his own hands to get the ultimate success in his sport instead of continuing to allow his current GM, coach, owner, salary cap, and teammates to decide it while people who aren't his professional peers call him a loser or admirable for sticking with his losing franchise instead of going to a team with better management. Something is to be said about loyalty, but I believe that to be greater in the heart of the ticket purchasing fan than the player who is bound by a contract. Fans can simply not buy tickets when a GM makes decisions that throw the future of a franchise in the can. But players are bound by contract to play for that team throughout all of the bad decisions that the general manager, coach, teammate, or owner make until he finally is a free agent able to "chase a championship."

Very interesting point. Yes, I can see how I may have discredited the importance of playing under competent management, but the fact remains is that each of these superstars could not get it done until they banded together. One can argue that if it wasn't for their management, they may have very well won some championships on their own.
This same argument is brought up a lot when you compare players such as Garnett and Duncan; both have very distinguished individual careers, but the success Duncan has achieved is head and shoulders above Garnett's. Again, you have to look at the management each of these players played under, and you have to acknowledge the discrepancies.
With all that said, its why I believe Kobe wants to win a championship so badly. He wants to be the main man on the team and win one without Shaq. You can't say that about Allen, Garnett, or Pierce (they each had 2 all-stars to depend on).
What I'd like to see one day is someone who is so good that they can go to a losing franchise like the 90's Sixers or the current Clippers and will them to a championship without help. That would be truly admirable.

I'm sorry, but this just doesn't happen. Sine 00, two came close...iverson in 01 and lebron in 07. We all admire Jordan, but even Jordan's team was stacked with talent throughout most of his career. I think basketball is simply just a team sport and no matter how good one individual is, ie iverson in 01 and lebron in 07, one individual just isn't going to win it. It's just a fact, every batman needs a robin, sometimes even an Alfred helps.

Anyone remember Shaq's accomplice that year with the initials DW?? It takes more than 1 person on a team.

Re: Iverson and Barkley comments on the Brand move
Actually, the Heat had just finished going to the EC Semis with Odom, Bulter, and Wade before Shaq got there. They were not at all a bad team, and in fact a very well coached one and should have been one player in addition to what they had away from winning it all. Riley blew the marbles on Shaq and won for that.
