Job Announcement
Job Description:
Looking for a SG/SF to spell minutes for Iguodala and Thaddeus Young.
Required Experience:
Preferably in the 6'6 - 6'9 range. Good ball handling skills a MUST and 3 point range a preferred. Must be capable of conforming to an up-tempo style of play. Preferably comes with little to no disciplinary baggage. Willing to seriously consider previous injuries that may have devalued stock. Must be willing to take the minimum. Possibility that a player (WG) may be moved in order to increase salary and playing time. Who are you?
Guys who come to my mind: Demarr Johnson, Matt Barnes, Shawn Livingston, *Qyntel Woods (disciplinary baggage too severe but physically, the correct match), Dominic McGuire (any chance that the Wizards would do a trade?), Bill Walker (I'm pretty sure this kid went undrafted in '08 but we should look into him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sSsOtnku8M).
Who fits the bill in your mind?

Re: Job Announcement
Not that he was much of an answer, but I believe Matt Barnes just signed a one-year deal with Phoenix. Bill Walker was drafted by the Wiz and traded to the Celtics.

Re: Job Announcement
I think McGuire has some potential but I don't think the Wizards would give him up too easily. There must be some Carney type clones out there. I wonder if there is a list of SG/SF's who weren't drafted. Anyone watching the summerleague games see any players on other teams worth considering?

Re: Job Announcement
Quinton Ross is a guy to keep an eye on. He's not a offensive guy at all, but he is one of the best defenders out there in FA. I think he could fit in well here and would come pretty cheap.

Re: Job Announcement
This isn't just about shooters. Heck, out of the guys mentioned in the initial post, I don't think you can classify any of them as shooters. I understood this thread to be about just getting a quality SG/SF who can provide bench minutes and help the team in any way.

Re: Job Announcement
I didn't intend this thread to be about cheap shooters; again, my main emphasis is getting a backup SG/SF similar to what we just lost in Carney. 3 point range would be ideal but it wasn't a "must". I was really looking for a player in the 6'6 - 6'9 range who was young and had potential but somehow fell through the cracks, be it for minor infractions or for a past injury.

Wow. I just realized that if we move Iggy to SG and start Thad, we have no SFs off the bench. Ironic after so many years of drafting SFs.

Theres 2 guys that I wish the sixers can bring in ...and they might come cheap... maurice evans who is athletic like rodney carney but shoots the three better..or kareem rush who got that quick release like kyle korver from three point range.

Re: Job Announcement
no offense but if he cant shoot I dont want him. The only exception being a lock down defender(ross?)
If they cant help in either of those 2 departments, Id rather just give more minutes to our current players. Rush and Mo Evans are 2 guys definitely worth considering but I dont see how they dont fit into the "cheap shooter" mold.

Re: Job Announcement
Shame on me for thinking this was a job opening to RealGMer's
I'm on board for Ross, his defense would help. Kirk Snyder could probably be had for cheap.
I'm not sure if he resigned with Phoenix, but Gordon Giricek may be available.

I would go with Luther Head, whose 3 point efficiency was only 35% this year because MIng missed 27 games and McGrady missed 16. For his career he shoot the 3 at a 39% efficiency. With the 76ers he would would shoot an easy 40% with Elton Brand here. You want to make certain that you use all the Luther Head bench minutes with Brand. It definitely would not work with Evans . It could work with Speights. I would also bring in Kareem Rush, since Ben Gordon would be too hard to trade for, although he is the guy I want, but not reality.
The 76ers shoould bring Marty Lunen and Anthony Morrow into camp this October. Lunen hit some trays for Houston, while Anthony Morrow has played very well for GS. The 76ers might want to take a look at the Brown kid, who is playing PG for New Orleans.
The 76ers made a big blunder in round 2 of the 2008 draft. They were so focused on Deandre Jordan, so when that situation did not work out favorable for the 76ers, Stefanski just gave up, when he should have forged on persuing a lower 2nd round pick like Shan Foster who shoots trays well and played in one of the best conferences in the country. I think Ed was celebrating the Speights move, when he could have celebrated the move an hour later.

Re: Job Announcement
I'm gonna play my "let's sign Marko Tomas" card again.
Best Case: Mike Miller
Worst Case: Jason Kapono
Strengths: One of Europe's hidden talents, despite having played at last years Chicago Predraft camp ... Has a very bright future, with the NBA squarely in his sights ... He is constantly working hard on his game and plays mature beyond his years.... He plays from the 3 to the 1 position and can be a playmaker, depending on what the situation calls for ... He is very tall and has a good physical structure, but lacks great strength ... He has good leaping ability which has improved since he has added strength ... On offense he can do a little of everything, and does a good job of taking what the defense gives him ... With good vision, he is no nonsense with the ball, making the right pass over the spectacular one ... He has good instincts for the game, and can create some for teammates off the dribble... His 3 point shot is very effective ...
Weaknesses: He is not very quick, so defending and creating open shots in the NBA will take some work ... He is very versitile but lacks a true role... His first step is not super, but he knows how to use fakes and change of speed/direction well ... He can be prone to gambling for steals on defense ... He can be too enamored with the dribble drive, when sometimes using his great 3 point stroke would be more beneficial ... Does not have a great windspan at just 6-7 ...
Notes: Measured 6'6.5'' without shoes 6' 7.75'' with shoes and a 6' 7'' wingspan at the Chicago Predraft Camp in the summer of 2004.

he was interviewed in January 2006, and he told the interviewer that he might try his chances in the NBA again in 2 years. He has a buyout clause though..

Bobby Brown is a very good name. Saw a few games in the summer league and he's been one of the best PG's I have seen there. He seems to make very smart decisions, he's quick, great passing, can score some and seems to play solid D. If we are looking for a young PG, then he's got to be on the list. My guess is we are going to look for the PG from the veterans that are out there. It sounds like the Hornets really like Brown, so there's a good chance he may just sign there.

If we pick up a swingman, it definitely should be a player with some shooting ability. We need some more depth there for sure, but I prefer it to be someone that can shoot.

Re: Job Announcement
One guy who deserves a serious look is Damien Wilkens of the OKC "Thunder" (still not convinced that's gonna be the name). He can score, as evidenced by his 41 points against ATL last year, he shoots the 3 reasonably well, he plays solid D, he's got a terrific pedigree (nephew of Dominique), and most of all, he's a veteran who at 28, has to want to get out of the rebuilding project in OKC that is at least 2-3 years away from being relevant. He would fit well into our style of play and would seems to be a good guy in the locker room. If they would take Willie I would do a backflip but more likely would be a deal sending Smith and some kind of filler to make the deal work.

I'm never, ever trading Jason Smith for Damien Wilkins.
Just sign Bobby Jones and keep it moving. Whoever you sign is only going to get about 10 min a game anyway.
