Artest to HOU
I was wrong.... Really wrong.
Sincere apologies to everyone here for claiming Artest-for-Tayshaun was a done deal... I was simply passing along some information, but I deeply regret doing so.... Yep, that's me wiping some major egg off my face.
Not like anyone cares about my source anymore, but the DET-SAC trade hit a snag when Dumars wanted F. Garcia along with Artest as filler for Prince. Petrie balked, offered lesser players and it fell apart. I never should've said it was a done deal... I misinterpreted some preliminary information... Lesson learned.
Onto basketball matters.... Petrie got decent value for Artest (assuming Donte Green is included), but I wonder whether surrendering Garcia to acquire an Olympian like Tayshaun Prince would've been better in the long-run. Then again, their re-building project is looking quite healthy right now with all those attractive, young players and draft picks.... Meanwhile, HOU has a totally new look right now. Interesting deal.

If Donte Greene is in the deal, I don't know if I love it for Houston. It gives them a better shot to compete now, I guess, but I thought Greene was gonna be good for them.

Petrie got something for nothing. Basically two #1's for a guy they were ready to let walk? Petrie is still the man.

Re: Artest to HOU
The Houston Rockets have reached an agreement to acquire forward Ron Artest from the Sacramento Kings, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.
The Rockets will give up guard Bobby Jackson, a No. 1 draft pick next season and another player that the individual with knowledge of the trade could not name.
It is believed that rookie Donte Greene is included in the deal, which will prevent the deal from going through until August 14, when Greene is able to be dealt.
There could also be other players involved to make the money match but none that the Rockets would plan to keep. The Rockets will also send the Kings cash in excess of $1 million.

That's great value for Jackson's 6M expiring.
Where does Artest play, PF?

Re: Artest to HOU
If Yao is healthy, you can play Battier/Artest at the forward spots...both can defend and rebound, so it would work. Nice 'now' deal for Houston...nice rebuild deal for the Kings.
Udrih/Martin/Greene/Thompson/Hawes...not a bad young team down the road. Some nice depth now with Sheldon, Miller, Jackson, Salmons, Moore. Good deal for both teams.

Re: Artest to HOU
Artest can't play PF in the West. Maybe for a few minutes, not much more than that. Same for Battier. There should be plenty minutes available for Shane. Houston is thin and McGrady has injury history galore. He typically complains when they play him too much during regular season. 37 minutes for him and 36 for Artest, plus a few minutes at PF, leaves plenty of time for Battier, who is best suited as a 6th man anyway. Or they deal Battier to get a PG.

Re: Artest to HOU
This makes it extremely unlikely that the Rockets would trade McGrady for Iggy. I also think it makes them as good as anyone in the league providing they are healthy and Artest doesn't go nuts.
As for Battier, he is very versatile, he can come off the bench and play minutes at the 2/3/4, So I don't see the Rockets trying to get rid of him.

With Bobby Jackson traded, Hou is now missing a backup piece at PG. Unless they feel Steve Francis can actually contribute. I would love to work a Miller for Battier+filler swap. Obviously as has been pointed out, Hou may not have much interest in trading for Iguodala as Ron Artest is the superior basketball player.

no, it means the rockets have a three headed monster every team in the league dreams about, a defensive stopper to take the assignments that contribute to wearing mcgrady down all year, and FINALLY some quality depth because battier comes off the bench with mcgrady, battier, and artest being interchangable.

Re: Artest to HOU
Yes this no doubt makes Houston a favorite in the west if Yao and TMac can stay healthy and Artest can keep his head about him. Those are three big if's in my opinion. The only constant is in fact Shane battier and he's pretty much the backbone of the team. No way should they deal him if they are trying to win now. It's also not Steve Francis that needs to step up but rather Aaron Brooks. Good deal for Houston now and for the next three to four years.
Nice deal for the Kings too but expect them to really suck next year and expect Kevin martin to like lead the league in scoring because they pretty much have nobody at this point besides him. I would also look for Brad Miller to be moved as well.

Wow this is a steal for Houston.. I am a cuse fan and believe me, Greene is 5+ years away from being anything in the league, if he is even ever gonna be anything. He was terrible last year in college, honestly the most over hyped player i ever saw. Houston should compete if healthy.

I don't mean this in a cruel way, but do you even think before you post some of your trade ideas? Some things you think about are just way out there and make no sense whatsoever.
You've been trying to trade Miller and Iguodala every which way this offseason, and every idea I've seen you talk about has made zero sense for the Sixers and has us getting totally robbed in the deal.
Please tell me this is sarcasm.
I can't think of one way where that deal makes sense for the Sixers. We lose arguably our most important player, the glue to our team at PG, and get a player in return where we have no room in the starting lineup for.

I love the deal for both teams. Greene is gonna be good but will he ever be Ron Artest? Houston is in win now mode and got a stud (if his head is on straight). Ron Ron will be able to take a great deal of the burden from TMac. To me this propels Houston right up with the other WC powers. I also never thought Sac would get 2 1st rd picks.

Re: Artest to HOU
I've said it before, I'll say it again.
We need a shooter in our starting lineup. Evans nor Green will ever get traded untill this season is over, and/or someone needs a rebounding big(Evans). So who do you trade? The 33 yr old PG. Andre Miller's been great for us, but seriously we're treating him like he's Allen Iverson. He's not. He's a solid PG that may possibly be replaced if Lou Williams emerges in camp.
Yes, Battier probably won't start for us and I should have looked at the 3pt percentages. But I've assumed that he's a sharpshootie for our bench and another backup at the G/F Position.
