OT: Eagles and Brett Favre
Anyone else looking forward to the upcoming Eagles season? We had a pretty stellar defense last year and we add Chris Clemons(8.5 sacks last yr) and Mr.Interception(Asaunte Samuels) to the mix. Anytime you have a strong secondary and good pass rushing, it generally leads to interceptions and in turn extra possessions. That alone will improve what was one of the lesser offenses in the National Football league.
Now, the Brett Favre saga. Can you believe what your seeing? Given the chance to have a hall of fame QB play for your team, they're gonna go with Aaron Rodgers. The same guy that dropped through the draft. Now I know there have been guys that dropped and succeeded. Such as hall of fame QB Dan Marino and Matt Basselbeck . But QB's like them worked on and improved on their games. Mike McCarthy coached this team for the last 2 years. And clearly, in those 2 years Aaron Rodgers did not outperform Brett Favre. Combined with the fact that 23 NFL Teams said "NO" to Rodgers, I think that even McCarthy's strings are being pulled by management that clearly doesn't want to win.

Re: OT: Eagles and Brett Favre
Like most of the Delaware Valley, I have low expectations of this team this year. I think they'll go 9-7 and get in as a Wild Card and then lose in the Wild Card round in a competitive game.
As for Favre.... I'm tired of that story now. It was kind of fun a couple of weeks ago when there was little going on in sports... but now it's become a touch much.

This is the first time in a whie that I'm more exited for the sixers than the Eagles. Hopefully they prove me wrong and win the division.
As far as the Favre situation goes, the Packers have done nothign wrong. He retired and they moved on with Rogers. They can't just go back now that Favre changed his mind. It wouldn't be fair to Rodgers and the work the team has done since Favre retired. And Rodgers' draft position means jack ****. Brady was drafted in the 6th round ffs.

As a Vikings' fan, I hope the Packers stop holding Favre hostage and let him come play with us, it would help showcase Adrian Peterson's talent as the 2nd (yes, gtfo Westbrook) best RB in the NFL.

I really think the Eagles are gonna suck hard this year.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them go 5-11.
Works for me though, that means we could have 2 top 10 picks, as Carolina is gonna suck too.

Re: OT: Eagles and Brett Favre
I have high hopes for the Eagles this year.
Our O and D should both be improved. I'm excited to see this D in action, we're solid from the line to the secondary, we could have one of the best D's in the league in my opinion.
Our special teams should be a lot better too. Akers and Rocca should both have better years (if they don't, then we need to start looking for a new punter and kicker) and our coverage should be a lot better. Of course our new returners should have a big impact too.
Right now I have a hard time finding our weaknesses. I'm sure a lot of people would say our WRs are a weakness, but I think we're above average there. I guess our O-line is a concern (pass blocking, they're great run blockers) especially without Andrews right now.
I'm surprised that, like Guilty Party said, most of the Delaware Valley seems to have low expectations. Right now I have the Cowboys at the top of the division but the Eagles aren't far behind. I'd put the Eagles ahead of the Giants and Redskins... assuming McNabb stays healthy
To all the people who think the Eagles will suck... why? What are our weakness?

Re: OT: Eagles and Brett Favre
The real reason people are down on the Eagles is obvious: An Offense that was one of the worst in the NFL. And from everyone's prospective, that offense has not changed. It and it's ancient offensive line has gotten 1 year older.
And I understand that. But with a healthy L.J Smith and Brian Westbrook(Yes, Andy Reid this is different from the T.O Situation, give him his extra 5 million. He deserves it.) You now have two playmakers. That's not counting Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis, two wide receivers that can make a play. And then there are guys like Hank Baskett.
And it's all on the Quarterback. McNabb has never been healthier and he looks to complete his first full season since 2003.
I predict a 13-3 record, quote me on that.

He might be the 2nd best, but Westbrook is the best.

Re: OT: Eagles and Brett Favre
im sorry but ive seen enough LJ Smith to know he is not a playmaker...he is a suitable starting tight end but he does not have enough breakaway speed to be a playmaker nor is his run blocking anything too great...while Celek might not have the same athletic ability, he probably offers you more value for your dollar...
this is something that frustrates me with the Eagles along with the Phillies...they try to say that they improve by the return to health of players or bounceback seasons..."if brett myers finally reaches his ceiling, the phils have 2 aces"..."if lj smith comes back healthy and in search of a new contract, this offense will be more dynamic"...truth is, the offense needed something to change it up and a healthy mcnabb can only do so much...11-5 isnt out of the question but as currently constructed, this offense isnt championship worthy...im not saying we need terrell owens back, but a deep threat at wide receiver, or a better playmaker at tight end couldve helped...
take last year, the acquistion of curtis was a nice signing but it was just as a replacement to stallworth...if the eagles were smart and creative, they wouldve added curtis to stallworth and brown to give them 3 average to above average wideouts but all with complementing sets (reggie-possesion guy, curtis intermediate slant route guy, stallworth deep threat)...just kind of frustrating bc you sometimes dont need stars, just the right pieces and that comes with honestly evaluatiing your personell decisions (which is a different topic that i dont think reid does well)

Re: OT: Eagles and Brett Favre
The Brett Favre Saga is close to it's end, or is it? I predict a similar scenario in Tampa Bay. Will Jon Gruden use a 2 QB System with Brett Favre/Jeff Garcia? It's likely Garcia who lands on the bench, how will Garcia feel about that, essentially signing to Tampa Bay for the purpose of being a starter? I think that the Brett Favre saga is far from over if Garcia feels the same way he did in '06 here in Philly.
Or, it could make the Tampa Bay Bucs a dangerous team in the NFL. To have two star quality QB's in their rotation. If one goes down, the other is just as solid. And that is very dangerous. Or, if they have differing styles of play. You don't know which QB to game plan most for. Brett Favre, or Jeff Garcia. Garcia doesn't have the deep threat, but he's a solid QB who knows the system. Favre on the other hand, is a gunslinger and I don't think Gruden will be afraid to use it. This could be very exciting for Tampa Bay football.

Re: OT: Eagles and Brett Favre
So the Jets acquire Favre. Favre definately upgrades their starting QB position, but as far as team performance. I don't think the Jets go any further then a Wild Card Apperance. So the pick from NY is bound to be low or mid range. Were the Bucs holding out on giving Green Bay a solid QB reserve as well as a pick? If they were, it must mean they were content with Jeff Garcia.
