OT: This website does numbers on my browser

Post#1 » by LongLiveHinkie » Thu Aug 7, 2008 7:38 pm

Am I the only one? Whenever I come here, my browser completely bogs down and locks up for a good 10 seconds before it unfreezes. Also if I have real GM open in multiple tabs with Firefox - for example, the boards and the main site, then everything will lag incredibly bad. Then when I close the tabs everything jolts back into normal speed.

My computer isn't that great, but doesn't suck either. I think it is the wiretap that is doing it, because that always takes so long to load.

I haven't had that problem but this site is slower than most. I have found that viewing this site has been way better with FireFox instead of IE.

By the way, the subject of this thread (OT: This website does numbers on my browser) is funny to me. It almost sounds like your browser is a magical place that turns this website into some sort of accounting application.

Any chance you could have your browser do the numbers for Iguodala's cap hold next season should he sign the QO??? :-D

@westbrook

I had the same thing with firefox. It was because I like to play poker online(java applets are killer) sometimes and browse some boards while having the usual music and AIM up. I basically ran out of memory I figured so I just bought more memory which I had been meaning to do. I was running on 1 gig, so I upgraded to 3. Since then I have been perfect.

You could also switch your browser to opera. Opera is much less of a memory whore than Firefox I think. IE sucks.

I am running firefox on a 800mhz P3 10" Acer tablet (best $100 I ever spent on ebay- way better than an Eee PC.) I originally had some problems, but someone posted a workaround on one of the boards and it has been working great since.

Download the firefox add-on called "Stylish": https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108

Then install http://userstyles.org/styles/8056

Then go into tools and activate the RealGM maximized add-on.

It basically gets rid of the adds and wiretap headlines unless you hover over the top R of the screen.

Its much easier to use than it sounds, and only effects RealGm.

Nevermind... I got it.

Wow... that actually makes a fairly big difference in the load times of this page. Bravo.
