Please discuss any potential franchise changing Elton Brown/Nick Fazekas/Theo Ratliff signings here.

If we could merge the three into one big man, it would be a lot more exciting.

Yeah, that guy would still suck, but could give us 5, 4 and 1.5

I think Fazekas still is a talent and could wind up on this team. He can shoot from outside and probably isn't that much worse than Jason Smith in all reality. Otherwise i'm still hoping for Amare Stoudemire but that just isn't gonna happen

i can say a few words about elton brown
last year he played in Israel at a team called Hapoel Holon , i was born in Israel(i do live in the US now) and this is my favorite team since i was 6 years old.

so i followed the team all year long and watched most of the games live online.
Brown arrived in mid season and was great , he helpd the team win its first championship by beating Macabbi Tel Aviv who is a huge force in the Euro league(reached the euro league finales last year) and won the championship is israel the last 15 years and 36 times out of the last 40 years.

he has a great touch uner the basket and good low post moves, he rebound well for his size and can play in an up tempo game, he gets to the line a lot and can be instant offense from the bench , he is a better offensive player under the basket then anyone on the sixers other then EB.
how ever he defense is not that good and he is a little bit lazy in his approach to ther game.

i think he can be a solid bench player in the NBA.

Maybe Elton Brown could be lazy in Israel and still dominate. I don't think he has that luxury in the NBA. He is a big body with some potential (completely manhandled Jason Smith in the summer league) - he'd be worth looking into as a cheap big man option.

I don't really have any more thoughts on free agency but I have to say that the name of this thread sounds like a B horror movie and I love it.

@ryst

Where did you watch the Israeli games online? I would be interested in watching some international ball online.

There is no need for him here. He is barely 6-9 - listed at 6-9, but closer to 6-8 in reality. We have Brand, we have Evans, we have Speights. We need a guy who can step in and play center should Dalembert get injured, and to provide a few minutes a game when we play center oriented teams with a big body. Elton Brown can't do that.

And let's now let one Summer League game dictate what we do. He outmuscled Smith on a few post possessions. He didn't dominate sh*t. When is a 13 point output in one Summer League game dominant? Smith lit Brown up for 15 points on 6-10 shooting on the other end. Brown got a few boards over Smith, but it's tough to pin blame in the Summer League, where there are no defensive rotations to speak of.

I want the 76ers to bring him in. We have nothing to lose. He gave Jason Smith a very hard time in the 2nd pre-season gmae in which Denver beat Philly easily.

So that's the basis - one pre-season game in which Smith outscored Brown, he gave gave our worst post defender a hard time in the post on his way to 13 points? That's enough of a reason even though we need a center and Brown is a 6-8 PF who is lazy and a poor defensive player?

We can sign two big men. Brown and Ratliff.

On a non-guaranteed contract, Brown would be an interesting training camp invitee, but there is just no need for another young, untested, undersized PF on our roster. A guy like Fazekas would be a better fit though. Brown is a poor defender, decent rebounder, and mostly an undersized, but strong low post banger. We have Brand, we have Evans, we have Speights. He just doesn't fill a need here. Fazekas can at least shoot from beyond 12 feet and that has some value.

Ratliff has to want to play. It's not so clear he wants to stay in the NBA - at least not for the minimum. It would be nice to have him as a minimum salary back up for one year if he were willing to do that though. Otherwise, I hope they bring in a true center - Earl Barron, David Harrison, someone like that. Someone with legitimate center size.

I'd still like to add another shooter into the mix as well. Not as a big, but as a 2/3.

Did the kid with attitude issues sign yet...is it CJ Giles or something like that?? He showed a lot of skill in the summer league, but I don't know if he's a fit here. Just curious. Sign Theo and Fazekas and be done with it.

its ratliff or magliore at this stage.one of them is likely to be signed.

We may add a make good contract , probably a big, from one of our camp invites...thats it....the vet center....and one developmental type player....thats it

Per Wiretap:

According to a source, Theo Ratliff had offers from other teams for more money, but that he was very interested in the Sixers.

Ratliff, a 13-year veteran, finished last season with the Detroit Pistons.

It'd be fitting to have him come back here. He was welcomed back as a situational bigman defender in Detroit, so why couldn't he do the same for Philly?

Even with Smith out, splitting time backing Sammy D up with Brand, Speights and Evans would do. He'd certainly fare better than our dearly departed Calvin Booth...

Personally, I'd much rather have Ratliff than Magliore, but that's probably why Ratliff supposedly has other offers for more money and Magliore probably doesn't. That said, Magliore is probably a better signing than most other journeyman big guys that you could land for the veteran's minimum. I also think Magliore was signed to a small deal when Stefanski was still in NJ, so he might still like him.

As for a make good contract from one of our camp invites, I can only imagine that would be from a big that was playing for another team, such as Elton Brown because I saw nothing from the FA bigs on Philly's SL team.
