Best of the Best: SG

Things are slow and so I figured it's time for a fun thread. I've listed TEN players at the position in question in the poll above and your task is simple; pick the two who you think are the best.

I'll update the other positions every couple of days and by the end, we'll have the Sixers' Board All-NBA Team and Second Team based on how the voting turns out.

***********
With the PG voting being fairly conclusive (Chris Paul seems to be running away with the First-Team vote with Deron Williams having a good grip on Second-Team) it's time to move onto SG. Like Chris Paul, I think Kobe Bryant can and will run away with the lead but I'm curious as to who will get the 2nd team nod. Just to prevent everyone from vioing for only Bryant, I've enabled the poll to accept TWO votes from each poster.

In addition to Kobe, I voted for Roy...partly due to his age...partly due to DWade's history of injuries...I just think that Roy does it all...great shooter...quality handle...good passer...takes it to the rack...just so smooth and effortless...

I think Wade and McGrady are better players than Roy but injury history certainly has to be taken into account.

TGP:

When we talk about Iggy's 20/5/5 game, well...Roy does the same - with a better than 3-1 ast/to ratio.

I guess I am looking at this exercise as: if I was building my team TODAY, who would I take?

I went with Kobe and Wade. My next group would include McGraty, Joe Johnson, and Iggy.

When it's all said and done, Kobe and Roy will be remember much more than the rest.

I went with Kobe/Wade, provided that Wade plays like he's playing in the Olympics...

Kid is tearing it up...

While Roy is one of my favorite players, he has had a pretty big problem staying on the court so far in his career. He is about to have his knee scoped some time this week again. Brandon Roy is one of my top 5 non-Sixer favorites in the entire league, but dude is looking like he is going to be a 60 game player.

My vote? Unoriginal Kobe.

I know some don't like to hear it, but I really don't consider Iggy a sg. He can't shoot. With Daly-Brand-Young-Iggy-Milelr as the starting 5, we will lose a lot of games. Teams will simply clog the paint and force us to shoot Jumpers, which nobody in that rotation can.

Even with the inside scoring addition of Brand, we will still need to grind games out by playing good D.

The list for this position is looking kind of weak. Kobe is a little past his prime, although still the best player at the position. Wade and Roy are both excellent when they are healthy, but that is a big question mark for both, plus a demerit to D-Wade if he was really dating Star Jones. McGrady and Allen are older/high mileage with injury issues. Joe Johnson would probably be fourth on my list when Wade and Roy are healthy. Guys like Iggy and Rip are nice players, but not franchise guys and Iverson could never defend SG's. I would not be surprised to see OJ Mayo on this list in a year or two.

I love Wade. I'm just a huge fan of his game. I think he's the best 2 guard in the game. He's clutch, he's savvy, he's got instincts.

Looking forward to the SF poll. How many votes will Paul Pierce get for being the best players at his position (let alone in the NBA)?

As for this poll, who are the people voting for a washed up Ray Allen or guys like Joe Johnson and Iguodala? You must be on crack (no offense) if you think those guys are better then Kobe and Wade. Even Roy and McGrady...get serious. Kobe is possibly not only the best offensive player at the position, but he's arguably the best defensive player there too.

If he played defense somewhat consistently... but he doesn't.

Kobe and Wade. Kobe hands down, and Wade looks like he's back.

I don't think Ray is washed up at all; his timer is definitely ticking though.

We will lose a log of games with that starting 5? Really. Because at last check, last season instead of Elton Brand and his 20 and 10 and stellar defense, we had Reggie Evans, with 5 and 8, and pedestrian defense and we had Willie Green at SG, who is a worse shooter than Iguodala, and we still won 40 games and made the playoffs.

As for Brandon Roy, he's good, he's not top 2 or top 3. He can't carry Duane Wade's jock strap. A healthy Wade is the best player in the league, just a notch above LeBron. Roy is a guy who gives you 19, 5, and 5 and he's not a great shooter - he's a decent shooter, but far from great. Look at his numbers. And his defense is good and not great as well. He was a 4 year senior. He's not that young and his ceiling is not much higher than what he has shown already. He should get better, he might become a top 5 SG. He's not there yet.

Kobe & Wade

The two best shooting guards in the league, period.

Kobe and Wade. Everybody else is a level below those two.

So it seems with both of them way out ahead in the voting. I imagine LBJ will run away with the SF position for the First-Team but I think it'll be interesting to see who gets second there. I suspect it'll be closer than the other two positions.
