Re: Sixers reportedly offer Ratliff vet minimum
Out of the available bigs he's the one I wanted - He can provide some rebounding and defense at the 5 and won't be playing large amount of minutes - While on detroit last season he proved he still has some gas left in the tank otherwise I would have taken a pass on him - plus it will likely only be for a year unlike the 2 guaranteed years booth got so if he really stinks it up he can just be cut

I agree, out of what is left, he's probably the best fit for us off the bench as a one year replacement rental for Smith.

I like this move a lot. Ratliff seems to have a good attitude and approach to the game coming off the bench. Although he seems to be a shell of his former self, he'll still provide that defensive presence. In recent seasons it looks like hes been battling some injury problems, so hopefully he'll stay healthy and give us some valuable minutes and provide a block or two coming off the bench.

I have two remaining moved I'd like to see done between now and the trade deadline. One of them was for us to sign Theo Ratliff to play backup center. The 2nd is to move Andre Miller for Baron Davis.

Definitely works for me.
Has to be an upgrade from Booth.

Nothing wrong with this. Now let's hope the source who claimed Theo would like to play in Philly is credible.

I'm all for resigning him, but I want to see us sign one more big man, considering that Theo is one of the most injury prone players of his generation.

If they sign Ratliff I would be fine with one more big man being a rookie or other fairly inexperienced big guy. Ratliff won't play more than 10-15 per nigh even when healthy and he is probably limited practice wise as well. I would be comfortable with a big body to bang around in practice and be a very deep reserve. With Reggie, Ratliff and Speights on the bench I doubt we would need another experienced big man, but a developmental big would be nice.

Re: Sixers reportedly offer Ratliff vet minimum
Ed Stefanski had such an ideal in mind when Jason Smith was healthy.(Amazing, a GM who thinks like fan and acts like a fan for basketball. Not since Pat Groce and those were the good ole days!). But perhaps after signing Ratliff(if he signs, which I expect him too. I don't think Ed would waste the paper if he didn't feel like Ratliff would sign). I expect that developmental big to be signed. I expect it to be Elton Brown. Kid had some nice moves in the post. He was surely lost defensively, but so was Sam and look what he turned into. Brown could be Speights's career backup if all goes well.

Ratliff is the #1 priority for vet big man....he should be a Sixer shortly. Magliore is the backup plan...EArl Barron is plan #3

Do you know if its just a one year deal? I'd like to think Ed wouldn't include a vintage BK player option for a 2nd year.

Re: Sixers reportedly offer Ratliff vet minimum
I hope Ratty accepts cause Magloire stopped wanting to play halfway decent ball years ago and Barron hasnt actually done anything to warrant any consideration

For the veteran's minimum, I think landing Ratliff would be huge, even if it meant having to give him a 2nd year, a la C. Booth. Since Jason Smith is probably gone for the year and these will all probably be one year deals however, why not bring in Barron as well?

Ratliff has said he didn't want to play for the miniumn, yet he's interested in Philadelphia. I believe Ed Stefanski promised Ratliff playing time.
