The 76ers could have a veteran backup big man in place as early as today.

Theo Ratliff, 35, a veteran of 13 NBA seasons, has sifted through four offers and settled on rejoining the Sixers on a 1-year contract, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The source said the 6-10 Ratliff could visit with the Sixers today and accept a 1-year contract for the veterans' minimum of $1.4 million. By the rules of the collective bargaining agreement, a portion of the salary would be paid out of a leaguewide pool.

Good news. As said in the various rumor threads... he was the numero uno target on my list. I imagine that the only other signing that will be done this off-season will be an undrafted free agent from our summer league team.

I don't know about championship, but Philly is probably the 2nd best team in the East after an amazing off-season.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

Philly could have a very good defensive big man rotation with the additions of Brand and Ratliff.

Sammy is a good anchor to a defense with mixed results when it comes to man-to-man. Brand and Evans can both defend, and Ratliff could fill Sammy's role in limited minutes.

It's nice to be a team that can finally lure free agents.

Miller/Williams/Ivey
Iguodala/Green/Williams
Young/Rush
Brand/Speights
Sammy/Ratliff

This is a team that finally goes 9-10 deep. We're one 3 point shooter and more experience away from being a championship team.

The Miller situation will be key as well, if we do lose him, can Williams be his replacement and play at as high of a level?

I wish we had one more shooter, but I still think the 76ers take the title. We have only 12 men on the roster, so Ed should add a player in case of injuries.

Love it. It should be a good situation for Ratliff, being a fan favorite.

Ratty proved on Detriot that he has the ability to play some minutes and be able to defend and rebound - really good signing IMO

Good news to hear. Nice to bring back a guy who did good for our team in the past. But its too bad Elton stole his #. (and Shav's for that matter lol)

While he won't be seeing the floor as much because he's washed up beyond his years, we all can take solace in that the last time he was in Philadelphia, the team eventually reached the Finals. The Theo Ratliff factor.

Theo makes the 76ers bench stronger, as long as Mo Joe does not abuse his minutes. We know he is injury prone, so we do not want to blow out his knees. Good move by the 76ers. :D :)

Don't play him more than 100 minutes before the all star break.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that without Brand signing here that we wouldn't have seen Ratliff and Rush sign here for the minimum. It'll be interesting to see if we will land any veteran free agents for the minimum after the trade deadline when they are waived ala Sam Cassell to Boston last season.

next signing SHOULD be Jamont Gordon just to have him on the roster. Hes too talented. I would also like Scott Pollard hes also an adequate defender.

Last year we got hit pretty hard when Sam came out and we had nobody to protect the rim. With Brand and Ratliff joining the party we should change a lot of shots.

It's a definitely a great signing. It is always good to have depth, and we are a pretty deep team now. I don't know if I see Ratliff getting significant minutes from game to game. It depends on whether or not they want to play Speights right away. We shall see...

I like this signing, but we need another big man. he has played an average of 14 games in the last two seasons. He is one of the most injury prone players of his generation. I suppose he is do for a year of health.

Ratliff fills out the bench nicely. Good signing.

Sammy, Brand, Evans, Speights, and Ratliff make a nice rotation.
