Best of the Best: C/ WRAP UP!

Post#1 » by The Guilty Party » Tue Aug 19, 2008 2:48 pm

Things are slow and so I figured it's time for a fun thread. I've listed TEN players at the position in question in the poll above and your task is simple; pick the two who you think are the best.

I'll update the other positions every couple of days and by the end, we'll have the Sixers' Board All-NBA Team and Second Team based on how the voting turns out.

***********

While I'm sure a couple of other guys will get votes, I think this vote will come down to Howard and Yao. I'm not sure who will get the top spot but they are my picks. If he stayed healthy, I think Yao would easily be the top choice here but the man seems to get injured a lot.

So far, the ALL-NBA Sixers' Board Team looks like this:

FIRST-TEAM
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Kobe Bryant
SF: LeBron James
PF: Tim Duncan
C: ????

SECOND TEAM
PG: Deron Williams
SG: Dwyane Wade
SF: Paul Pierce
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: ????

You can go either way.

1a) Yao
1b) Dwight
1c) Theo Ratliff

Why is he 1c??? I fully expect Ratliff to come out and cement his induction into the HoF this season. :-)

Yao and Dwight, Dwight and Yao...If Yao is healthy for atleast 70+ games, he's the best...otherwise it goes to Dwight...

I'm still waiting for that 1 person take Oden or O'Neal in order to break this tie up.

I assume the one vote for Brad Miller is an accident since he's right under Yao? I don't think there is any question about this one right now unless Oden takes the league by storm for his rookie season.

I voted for Bynum. I first watched the kid play and was overly impressed. His Fundamentals are amazing defensively for a big kid coming out of high school. With solid rebounding and defensive technique. His good offensive skills around the basket make him the most complete center in the league. I remain of the idea that 6'11 Dwight Howard is a PF.

No doubt..

Dalembert.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i639wJl91Wc <-- can they do that?

But seriously, I think this is the easiest.

Yao and Dwight.

You win NBA titles with guys like Bynum. You only win games with a PF at C like Howard.

Hold your horses, Bynum isn't better than Dwight right now. Seriously, you have a 35-game sample size, that's not even half season and it's ridiculous to take Bynum over Dwight when he's yet to show the consistency to even duplicate the production he made for ONE month.

A few things:

No Sammy on the list? He's a lot better than Bogut IMO. Bogut just sucks. He also is MUCH better than Brad Miller and Shaq at this point in their careers. Hell he's better than Kaman and Chandler too. I'll take Sammy over everyone on that list besides Dwight, Yao, Bynum, and Oden.

Okafor I see as a 4, and I still see Dwight as a 4 even though he hasn't played it for a while.

Howard is probably the best all around center at this point. Take Yao if you want more of an offensive presence. If Bynum's knee checks out, he's in the top 5, and potentially #1 in a year...not there yet. Didn't he dislocate his patella? Not my favorite knee injury d/t recurrence. Actually am happier with Smith's ACL tear b/c it can be repaired.

Yao Ming is my #1. He's the most skilled big to play center, since "The Dream", and an absolute force when he's healthy.

Dwight is my #2. He's still gotta improve his post game, in particular his passing in the post. He will be the best center in the league for many years though.

Bynum would be my #3. Greg Oden has to lace up first, before I can judge him.

I'm not really sure I like anyone else on the list much. Everyone else is just about average, or not dominant. It shows how weak the center position is in the NBA.

Yeah, I don't know about that. I like Sammy, but let's try to be objective as possible.

AD28: It's debatable. Whilst I haven't seen Chandler play,he seems to feed incredibly off of Chris Paul. Samuel Dalembert has a similar skillset offensively whilst incorperating a jumper. Consistent? No. But it can be a threat if you don't guard it. As for being better then Chris Kaman. I think that's Westbrook homerism. He seems to hate every team/player not playing for the Sixers. Kaman has a solid lowpost game and rebounding.

It's totally objective. Chandler is a bum who had to play with Paul to even do anything in the league. Sammy does everything better than Chandler does. Kaman I'm not really a big fan of either. I'd take Sammy over him in a heartbeat.

Chandler is arguably the best defensive center in the League, Sammy does not do defense better than Tyson. Nor does he rebound better than him.
