Is there any scrub Small Forward we can still hire...

Post#1 » by 76ersxMVP » Tue Aug 19, 2008 6:24 pm

this offseason? I think we need another back up SF and we are set for 08-09 season. Is there any out there left that is worth it?

I hear that Bobby Jones might be available, but it would slow his quest to play with every NBA team.

The best case scenario would be if we were able to trade Green for a decent SF, someone that can shoot. Unfortunately it seems like Green does not have any trade value.

Bonzi might not have a choice but to take the minimum from some team.

Here's my list of serviceable SF types still out there who might be forced to take the minimum:

Bonzi Wells
Devean George
Quinton Ross
Mickael Gelabale
DerMarr Johnson
Kirk Snyder
Luke Jackson
Darius Miles

I think luke jackson would be good for us we need one more outside threat just to spread the floor with and keep those double teams off of elton.

I would sign Kirk Snyder. He played only 36 games and 21 minutes. But he had very solid numbers of 7 PPG and 3.5 RPG. Any Guard/Forward that can shoot a bit and get to the rack like that is a must add to the Sixers bench. We'll add Snyder and Fazekas.

Rotation:
C: Dalembert/Ratliff/Fazekas
PF:Brand/Evans/Speights
SF:Thaddeus Young/Iggy/Rush/Snyder
SG:Iggy/Snyder/Rush/Green/Williams
PG:Miller/Williams

Why would you want a 'scrub'?

As far as the term, if I could make an NBA roster in any capacity, I'd be jumping for joy. If you're in the NBA, you've accomplished something. We can sit here and deride some players, tempting as it may sometimes be, but keep in mind... we're sitting here. And they're not.

Quinton Ross is the easy #1 choice on my list. Provides some bench perimeter D at the SG/SF spots. Something we currently lack IMO between the likes of Lou, Willie and Rush.

I agree.. Quinton Ross would be a perfrct fit. If not Ross I would sign Kirk Snyder or Bobby Jones. the sixers need another wing defender

Agreed. Most of the guys left out there couldn't even make our active roster, but Ross' defensive abilities could easily land him in our rotation.

Some people are skeptical about him at small forward because he is undersized, but he has started and played many games at small forward. While he has more size to play the two, he could defend many of the threes in the league.

If it is just a scrub guy he's not going to play anyway. Thad, Iggy and Rush can all play significant minutes at the 3 and Ivey actually played there a few times last year when Milwaukee had a lot of injuries. We have a lot of good guards and could play three guards and two bigs in a few games if we had injury problems. I would not object to picking up a SF-PF tweener guy as an end of the bench developmental player. It would help our deep depth at two positions. A young guy like that might be best found around training camp cut time.

Ross would NOT be a perfect fit! he can't shoot the ball with consistency. if were gonna get a guy he has to shoot a LITTLE. Snyder and Jackson are my choices.

I would not give up Willie Green for some scub player. I would like to see some young player make this team.

With Young, Iguodala & Rush able to play the position, I don't see the need for another SF. Another F/PF player who can fill in for Jason Smith seems like more of a need to me.

We already have 3 bench guys who will provide the scoring/shooting. That's about all guys like Lou, Willie and Rush offer. Why do we need ANOTHER guy who can shoot off the bench, but can't play solid D? I think we need a starter who is a shooter, but we don't and that's not going to change any time soon. Since those "shooters" will be our bench guys, we do need a bench SG/SF who can be a defensive specialist.

To go a step further, Snyder isn't even a 3 pt guy so how does he help where Ross doesn't? Jackson is a good shooting option (who I liked before we signed Rush), but I don't see how he fits now. There's not going to be enough minutes for Rush and another shooting specialist. What you need is bench balance (play Rush when you need shooting and play Ross when you need defensive intensity). For that reason I DO think he's a perfect fit.

Rush at 6'4.5" (his predraft with out shoes measurment) can not cover top 3's. Rush is average athletically. His standing jump is about 26", equal to Kyle Korver who is a legit 6"6"'. I like the Rush signing, but he is a shooter who is at best an average defender. The sixers need another lock down wing defender in the mold of Ross. Though Royal Ivey is shorter than Rush, Ivey's standing reach and wing span are longer. Ivey might be the defensive specialist. I just have not seen enough of Ivey to know that for sure. Though it is not critical. they may be able to get by with Iggy and Thad. My concern is that Thad may have have some early game foul problems (if he is covering a Paul Pirece or a Rashard Lweis), which could ultimately limit his total minutes, and potentially limit his aggressiveness in the 4th quarter.
