Andre Iguodala is the 49th best player in the NBA
http://nba.fanhouse.com/2008/08/25/nba- ... o-49/#cont
I came upon this link when I visited sixersoul, one of the many Sixer blogs that I frequent and I'm pretty appalled.
He did a decent job scouting Iggy, but it's irrelevant when you realize where he's slotted our precious Iguodala. I'm very interested as to who exactly is in the 48-player pool, so I can spam this guy's mail box to hell with hate messages. Thoughts?

I don't know how Tayshaun is "clearly" ahead of Iggy, same goes for Marion, who's very overrated in my book. Tayshaun clearly outperformed Andre in the playoffs, but certain match-ups where one exploits the other isn't an accurate way of gauging a player's skill.
Miller was our MVP, but I do not think he's better than Iggy. Granger isn't, J-Smoove isn't, Gerald isn't, Deng isn't, Odom has almost become irrelevant, Miller's game isn't complete enough, Aldridge isn't quite there yet, and Oden hasn't even played in an NBA game. Everyone else on the second half of the list are on threshold, where you can go either way with it.

I think you use the term "clearly" a little too loosely. That said there is probably a group of 20 or so players who you could lump Iggy in with and argue either way. 49 is probably within range.

Re: Andre Iguodala is the 49th best player in the NBA
At first 49 seems like a bit much and while I probably would have him closer to #35 or so, I think he is part of a group of guys who right now could have a case made for being better than Dre. While it's completely ridiculous, I wonder if Iguodala will make Bill Simmon's annual Trade Value Column. He got up to #38 three years ago but has been an honorable mention the last 2 years.

Re: Andre Iguodala is the 49th best player in the NBA
It might be a surprise to hear it, but there will be at least 49 players making more than Iguodala this year. I don't know the exact number, but 44 players made 11M+ last year, and Iguodala makes 10.5M this year, so I assume he will be somewhere out of the top 50 salaries.
The challenge will be for Iguodala to improve enough as his salary escalates 1.1M each year to keep up with where he is slotted.

Why is that at all surprising? There are 30 teams in the NBA. Everyone agrees Iggy is not a number 1 option. Many feel that on a good team, he's at best a number 3 option. So according to this, he's about half way down the list of number 2 options in the NBA, which seems reasonable right now. He might get better as the time progresses, but right now, that's probably a fair range for him.

I ran into this site a few days ago and have grown to like the info its providing. They have Iggy ranked 38th in their CFACT which is court factor. It takes into account all the different ratings systems into one. Looking at the ratings they seem to be pretty spot on IMO.

At this point I would take Iggy over Turkoglu and Artest. Look who Turkoglu plays along side with,Howard and Lewis. You can also keep Jefferson, who I think is one of the most overarated players in the NBA. He puts on great moves to the hoop, but he is clearly not a great finisher. It helped having Jason Kidd all those years.

Take a closer look at all the teams and it'll prove otherwise. Plus, there is much more to factor in outside of scoring when classifying players.

Just ballparking (i.e. not going through all the rosters), i'd say Iguodala's around 35-40. I don't see putting him at 49 a grave injustice.

Re: Andre Iguodala is the 49th best player in the NBA
Plus, these rankings are so unbelievably subjective that you can't honestly take them seriously. After all, how can you compare a value of a defensive minded small forward on a championship team like Bruce Bowen to a player like say, John Salmons, a far better offensive player, and a decent defender on a non-playoff team? Where do you rank them? Would San Antonio in their championship years rather have had Bowen or Salmons and what about now? Do salaries and contracts play a role? What about attitude and leadership? Is there really a question that Ron Artest is a better overall player than Andre Iguodala? I would say no. But taken Artest's off-court and locker room problems, volitile personality, etc. and history, whom would you rather have? How about the age of a player? Is a 34 year old All-Star who has one or two years left in a tanke more valuable than a 23 year old who is close to being an all-star already? How do you compare players that play completely different positions and are asked to do entirely different things for their teams? Is there any question that Tayshaun Prince playing for a team like the Bobcats would average more points per game than he does for the Pistons? Would Prince putting up 19 points a game for the Bobcats but probably not taking on as much of a defensive role be a better player than a 14 point a game defensive game changer for a contender?
I think you can rate guys by several criteria, but it's always easier to compare players playing the same position and then figure out if you're talking about whom you would rather have for 1 year or long term, team needs, contracts, age, health, etc.
These rankings are pretty silly to begin with, but taking them for what they are worth, I agree 100% with dbodner. Is Iggy probably a bit better than 49? I think he is. But is he so drastically better that it's silly to suggest he is the 49th best player? Absolutely not. It's within a reasonable persons range of argument that he falls somewhere between 35 and 55, depending on what criteria are being used and whether age, health history, character, marketability, defense, adaptability of game to different systems, contract, etc. are all determined into the equation.

If the 76ers win the title this year, nobody on this board will care where Iggy ranks. Iggy, just do the Iggy pop!

I am certainly not the biggest Iggy fan in the world, but this list is based on your opinion, not fact. How many other players in the league were asked to be the #1 offensive option every night, and also take the other teams best scorer? here are my opinons

Pierce- agree
KG- agree
Brand- agree
Bosh- agree
Lebron- agree
Richard Jefferson- disagree. I would take Iggy over Jefferson
Joe Johnson- Agree.
Wade- Agree
Marion- Disagree. I would take Iggy over him anyday.
Dwight Howard- Why even compare?
Turkoglu- Disagree
Arenas- Agree. But who would you rather have on D?
Butler- Tie
Baron Davis- Agree, again plays no D at all.
Kobe- Agree
Gasol- Agree, no comparison though.
Bynum- Disagree. Bynum at least has to have a full good season before a judgement can be made.
Nash- Better offensively..
Stoudamire- agree
Dirk- Agree. again, rather Iggy on D
Yao- whatever
TMac- Agree
Chris Paul- Agree
David West- Tie. Don't forget he played with the best player last year and had a good defensive center to help him out.
Duncan- agree
Parker- agree, no comparison, rather Iggy on D
Ginobili- agree
Iverson- disagree
Melo- disagree. Yes Melo is better offensively, he is far from an all around player.
Al Jefferson- whatever
Brandon Roy- disagree. I though Iggy was a little better last year. Roy has a slsight advantage on offense, Iggy on D.
Deron Williams- whatever
Carlos Boozer- Agree
Rip- disagree. Offensive player, plays hard on D, but can only guard one position
Prince- Tie.
After that you have a bunch of guys, 49 is about right give or take a couple of slots..
Billups- Disagree.
Vince Carter- come on, gimme a break
Andre Miller- Really? I think they work well together.
Granger- No way.
Redd- No way. Offensive player only. Mainly shooter.
Josh Smith- Very debatable
Gerald Wallace-????
Jamison- agree.
Monta Ellis-???? Gimme a break
Odom- Nope, I would take Iggy.
Martin- ?????????
Josh Howard- Iggy
Artest- yes, but would still take Iggy at this point.
Mike Miller- Gomme me a freakin break
Durant- We are talking about currenly, correct?? Futire Durant has more potential.
Aldridge- whatever
Oden- Come on.
Deng- No way.

Well, opinions are like a-holes. Everyone has one. Some smell worse than others. It's up to Iggy to show whether he is deserving of being considered a top 30 player or not. Right now, he isn't. Next season? We'll see. Is he top 40? Maybe. Top 50? Probably. These are entirely subjective lists, although one way of being able to judge them is if you took salary and team cap situation out of the equation and simply looked at player value, ask yourself this - would Washington trade Caron Butler straight up for Iggy? Would Stefanski trade Iggy straight up for Caron Butler? Pretty sure Washington would not do it and Philly would. Same with Kevin Martin. Certainly the case with Greg Oden. On the other hand, I think Rip at this stage, as well as Vince, have less value than Iggy although they might be better players and I'm not sold that Jefferson is better based on his career year last year on a bad team.

49? Eh. Whatever. It isn't a crazy statement or anything. I would have him higher than more people likley, but he isn't relaly a bonified write it in stone top 25 player or somehting, so whats the big deal.
Where was Brand at?
