You may or may not have noticed, but the Sixers are celebrating the franchise's 60 year anniversary this season (going back to the Syracuse days) hence they will be wearing the throwbacks uniforms more often and using the old red, white, and blue basketball logo as well. In honor of that.... I thought we could have some threads discussing some of the players of the past. Similar to the "Best of the Best" threads that I created a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to create threads to find out who we, the Sixers' Board, feel is the best player at each position in the Sixers' recent history. I say recent history (PAST 20 YEARS) because I believe a majority of posters have only had limited time to watch players pre-1988 play. So rather than discuss and vote on guys like Wilt, Hal Greer, Billy Cunningham, Dolph Shayes, and even someone like Andrew Toney.... these threads will only feature guys from the 1988-89 roster up to the upcoming roster.
The name of the game is simple.... there are five names of players at a certain position listed above so please vote for one and let's discuss why you think he's the best player at that position over the past 20 years.
*****************
Now that PG (Cheeks) and SG (Iverson) are done, it's now time to move onto SF. Unlike the two previous positions, this spot hasn't been held by a single All-Star player in the past 20 years so this could be an interesting vote although I suspect Iguodala will run away with it.

Re: Best of the Past 20: SF
That's a tough list. Anderson was a 6th man here. Iggy only played SF for one season here - most of the other time he played a hybrid, SF/SG role. Robinson was here for essentially one season and Van Horn played more at PF than he did at SF. Lynch was the only legit starting SF who played the position most of the time, and even he was more of a 6th man type. Based on the list of those 5, I'd have to go with Iguodala and it's not even close.

Re: Best of the Past 20: SF
Glenn Robinson and KVH were both softies. One of which could've still played significant minutes if he didn't cry about being a sixth man(Robinson). Ron Anderson was a stud of a find but George Lynch was a hustling defender that was a part of the Eastern Title team of 01. But the best of all the SF'S as you have proclaimed is Andre Iguodala. Although I view Iggy as more of a 2 then a 3, obviously with AI Iggy wasn't going to get many votes. But here Iggy runs away with it.
All-Time Sixers rotation so far:
PG-Mo Cheeks
SG-Allen Iverson
SF-Andre Iguodala.
The Guard/Forward rotation is awesome next to Iverson. Cheeks and Iguodala having been stellar defensive players. It really does allow the Sixers to utalize AI as a cornerback intercepting passes. Kind of like the 01 team utalized Iverson.

Re: Best of the Past 20: SF
I figured that Iverson and Iguodala would run away with the SG and SF positions but I wasn't so sure about Mo at the point. The real interesting position will be PF which before this summer would have been Barkley in a landslide but now I think it'll be a tough vote between Charles and Elton. Actually, in the past 20 years, the Sixers have had some big names at PF. I believe the following will be the five choices.
Charles Barkley
Elton Brand
Derrick Coleman
Clarence Weatherspoon
Chris Webber
Charles Barkley
Elton Brand

Chris Webber

Re: Best of the Past 20: SF
This is another position where you could have thrown in the name of one of our future HOF tweeners. The best teams during the Barkley era were the ones where he played SF to Mahorn's PF. I think Iverson played more PG than Barkley played SF so I understand slotting him in at PF. Imagine if either Barkley or Iverson were even close to the average height for a PF and SG respectively, they would have been completely unstoppable on both ends of the floor. Looking back it is nice to have a team with good size at every position this year.
My vote here is for Iggy with Barkley not in the running.

Barkley wins in a land slide. It's not even close. Brand hasn't played a game here and Barkley is one of the top 3 PFs of all time in the NBA.

Iggy then next up will be Barkley. Brand hasn't played a game in Phila yet, not really fair to have him on the list when it comes out.

Fair or not fair... this is a discussion board and so I imagine having Brand on the list will at encourage more discussion. My vote will be going to Barkley as well but it's great to finally have a legitimate PF in his prime on this team again.

I'd probably have to say Iguodala, but when we re-do this 20 years from now, Thaddeus Young better be the clear choice.
