New Sixers, New Jersey Numbers

Post#1 » by The Guilty Party » Wed Sep 3, 2008 1:28 am

http://www.nba.com/sixers/roster/

The news is slow hence creating a purpose for this thread so with that in mind, Sixers.com has finally updated their roster page to reflect the jersey numbers of the new players who have signed here. Obviously Ratliff (42) and Marshall (42) were going to have to pick new numbers but Kareem Rush has worn #21 his entire career which is obviously already taken by Thad. Also, we knew Speights was going to have to pick a new number since his college number (34) is hanging in the rafters.

Here are the new jersey numbers since I'm sure most of you will be dying to get your damn dirty hands on a Donyell Marshall.

Donyell Marshall: #8
Theo Ratliff: #50
Kareem Rush: #4
Marreese Speights: #16

Aside from Iguodala's brief stint wearing the #4, I believe that number has been cursed. KVH wore it in his one season here and Webber also wore it for almost 2 years he was here. In both cases, I grew to despise both players after being fans of them earlier in their careers.

CWebb's 20 and 10 really helped show me just how hollow some stats can be. Before he got here, I believed that 20 and 10 meant you were an All-Star player capable of leading a team someplace other than home by May 1st.

Also, I looked up the history of the #4 for the Sixers and it definitely has some bad vibes to it. Webber and Van Horn are the most recent tragedies to wear the number but before them there was Sharone Wright, Michael Cage, The Corpse of Rick Mahorn (2nd term), and Temple's own.... Juan "Pepe" Sanchez. Hell, even the great Dolph Schayes wore #4 in his first and last season with the Sixers which is fitting since #4 seems to be the number most players wear just before the completely run out of gas.

Thanks for being such a downer TGP...

Haha, just kidding...thats pretty depressing though.

I could definitely see Rush being a black hole on offense. Theres a reason he's been such a journeyman through out his career.

Does anyone know when training camp opens? I've looked everywhere and can't get an answer.

I looked around for that yesterday and couldn't find when and where it is opening. Under King, the team used to go down to Duke. I wonder where Stefanski will have the team open camp. I'll e-mail Jasner and see if he knows.

Shav can't play. That's why he's unemployed.

If Rush, our third string SG, doesn't pan out, I think we'll all get over it a lot better than when KVH and Webber didn't pan out - guys who were supposed to lead the team to the promised land. So long as Iggy, Brand, Lou, Thad, Daly, Speights, and Smith (when he returns) pan out, and Miller and Green can play at least as well as last season, we'll be in good shape, even if Rush gets released by mid-season.
