You may or may not have noticed, but the Sixers are celebrating the franchise's 60 year anniversary this season (going back to the Syracuse days) hence they will be wearing the throwbacks uniforms more often and using the old red, white, and blue basketball logo as well. In honor of that.... I thought we could have some threads discussing some of the players of the past. Similar to the "Best of the Best" threads that I created a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to create threads to find out who we, the Sixers' Board, feel is the best player at each position in the Sixers' recent history. I say recent history (PAST 20 YEARS) because I believe a majority of posters have only had limited time to watch players pre-1988 play. So rather than discuss and vote on guys like Wilt, Hal Greer, Billy Cunningham, Dolph Shayes, and even someone like Andrew Toney.... these threads will only feature guys from the 1988-89 roster up to the upcoming roster.

The name of the game is simple.... there are five names of players at a certain position listed above so please vote for one and let's discuss why you think he's the best player at that position over the past 20 years.

.... and so now it's time to take on the PF position. Fair or not, Elton Brand is on this list now that he's a Sixer. I doubt that he'll sway the vote in any significant way but with his name added, the Sixers have had some top notch names play the 4 spot over the past 20.

I heard that Charles Barkley guy is pretty good.

If Chuck gets picked (which he will), will that give us the shortest all-time lineup?

Short but effective. Whoever the center is going to be (I'm thinking either Geiger or Bradley), he would have their hands full protecting the rim.

Bradley could be our best center, thats a joke right TGP?

My vote goes to the Round Mound of Rebound for the PF spot. Its a shame Brand didn't play here for a couple of years, it would have been a lot closer...even still, Barkley's superior offense would have trumped Brand.

Ummmm, yes. I'm not sure Bradley even cracks the Top 5 in the past 20 years when you consider that we've seen Dalembert, Mutumbo, Ratliff, Gminski, Manute Bol and Geiger. I'd probably rank Bradley and Geiger about even with Bol slightly ahead of them because of pure entertainment value. Chicks dig the longball and Manute knew that.

As good as Brand has been to date in his career, in his best year, he still wasn't as good as Chuck.

No Tyrone Hill?!

Yeah, I accidentally voted for Brand, but the right choice for now is easily Barkley. However, if Brand can return to form, he should still have a few years in his prime left. If he can then, dare I say, help lead a team(us) to a championship, he'll be right up there with Chuck.
