OT: Phillies Postseason

Post#1 » by kanga » Tue Sep 30, 2008 6:12 pm

Who else is excited about the Phillies' chances this postseason? I for one can't focus on the Sixers until the Phillies are done. I think we'll roll over Milwaukee in 4 games, and put up a good fight against the Cubs next week.

Lidge, who will be HUGE in determining our success, just won the MLB comeback award: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3618087

Howard will definitely be in the top 3 in MVP voting, possibly winning it for the second time in three years (Cardinals didn't make playoffs, so Pujols might not be automatic).

With Utley, Rollins, Victorino, Werth...Hamels, Myers, Moyer, and the strongest bullpen in baseball, how can you not like our chances? GO PHILLIES!

Take out Myers, he's been too inconsistent to be considered an asset. Infact, I wish Blanton was pitching in Myers place. I think that because of Myers, yes, a 4 game win over Milwaukee. I think Brad Lidge should win the NL MVP. He had a F-Rod like performance for the NL.(41 Out of 41).

True, Myers has been inconsistent this year, but it really has been a tale of two halves for him: Absolutely awful for the first half of the season, and extremely effective the second half (other than that horrendous start against the Marlins two weeks ago). If he can get anywhere close to the form he had from July 23 - Sept 14, I think we are set with our rotation. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6864/gamelog;_ylt=Ak.V.5Q6hwycvQerwPMht4qFCLcF

Doesn't really matter which Myers we get in the first round... he'll be facing Sabathia both times.

C.C has been SICK. Really sick. But I wonder how long can he keep it up. As long as he gets some rest I think he'll be good to go. Hopefully Myers is preparing himself for Game 2. All he needs to do is keep the Brewers within a run or two. Then we can probably get something going.

Lidge scared the crap out of us.

Hamels was the "ace" that we believe he is. Downright dominant.

Oh, all Lidge allowed was a hit and a run. It wasn't that catastrophic. He had a good performance. Hamels indeed showed up today. Actually, his 14-10 record is very decieving. Many times our offense was shut down this season.

He had a good performance? The guy came in with a 3-0 lead and was one swing away from a tie game.

As usual, I don't agree with you.

Well, we can agree to disagree. True Lidge put himself in a tight spot, but at the same time navigated out of his own mess and that's what you need from a closer. And WTF, Myers? He beasted while it looked like it finally caught up to CC.

Myers came up huge and pitched a gem of his own.

Two sweet at bats too, drawing 15 pitches from CC.

Andy Reid has to be the biggest (not literally) Phillies' fan around. If it wasn't for the Phightin's, the Eagles and Reid would be get torched 24/7 on 610 and 950.

On a positive note, I think we're headed for the World Series. I'm taking the Phils in 6 over the Dodgers.
