OT: NBA 2K9

Post#1 » by The Guilty Party » Wed Oct 8, 2008 7:46 pm

Apparently NBA 2K9 came out yesterday (had no idea) and so I saw it in a store and picked it up. While I've only played it for about an hour or so thus far, here's what I've noticed.

- player models are FAR improved

- The OK Thunder name and jerseys are in the game

- While the player models improved, the overall ambient graphics of the court and crowd seem a bit choppy compared to last year

- Iguodala is a beast who attacks the rim in so many ways that it's a night and day difference from the NBA 2K8 version

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else picked this up and if so, thoughts?? Is it wrong to trade Miller for B-Diddy if the CPU accepts the deal?? :-)

Over here in Germany the game comes out tomorrow. Can't wait to play the game. I've heard about a problem. It happend to some other guys in the USA that if you play against the CPU it may happen that he doesn't pass the ball back into the game after your team scored. Did that happen to you so far TGP?

The first thing I will try to do is to get Oden or another big time Center. Perhaps it's possible to get one of them for Dalembert + Lou and a 1st

How is it to play with Brand as our starting PF? That has to be amazing after one year with Reggie as our 4

I picked it up, but I'm still old school and rock the PS2 version. The game play and graphics are strikingly similar to last year. I like how most players have a signature shot (even Lou Williams). I've barely gotten a chance to play it much, but have yet to notice any new dunks, moves, flashy passes, or anything of that nature.

And yes, it is wrong to trade Miller for B-Diddy.... I know how much you want B-Diddy in a Sixers uni.... this will only jinx it.

I've yet to have that problem but then again, I've only played two NBA games and two blackcourt games (pick-up).

I have the 360 version and thus far I haven't noticed any new dunks but I've definitely seen a lot more moves because of the signature moves. Iguodala's driving, step through fingerroll at the rim looks just like the move I saw him perform dozens of times last season. Also, I have noticed that the defensive trapping system is different. The game now feels a little more fluid than last season but there aren't that many differences.

As for Brand... he's a stud. His player model looks just like him, his post moves are sweet, and his jumper is spot-on from a player motion standpoint.

TGP,

I also have the 360 version, however didn't have the chance to play on-line yet. I played vs the CPY last night and noticed something weird. Gameplay had a lot of lag, it's a little slow then it gets faster, much like playing around with the ffwd button. Did you experience anything like this. Also you have to add Donyell Marshall from the FA list to the 76ers and edit Royal Ivey's number from 36 to 12.

I haven't so much noticed that during the game but I have noticed some choppiness during the opening stadium shot when you start a game. Also, I'm not a fan of Clark Kellogg now being the CC man on the broadcast. Either way, B-Diddy is leading the Sixers to a title starting tonight.

Dude, i will SO play you over live.

Things I've noticed that are bad are STILL no Sixers red alts and it has crappy frame rate in 2k cam.

I would love to get it, but I don't have one of the cool systems. My wife and I have the Wii. Oh well...

I got the game earlier today for the PlayStation 3. The game looks a lot better than NBA 2K8, but there does seem to be a bit of choppiness in the animations. Overall, it is improved from last year's game and looks to be a fantastic game to last us until this time next year.

I picked the game up on 360 Tuesday afternoon. Definitely a worthwhile investment, although a bit of an adjustment from 2K8. I also agree about the stutter framerate from the 2K cam, which I really hope they patch.

Also, is it just me or does anybody else happen to think the floor of the Wachovia Center is an epileptic seizure waiting to happen when trying to use the Sixers at home? I can barely keep up with the path of the damn ball with all those lights that flash all bright colors reflecting off the floor. May just have to play the road games when I start my Association.

I played one game last using the broadcast cam, didn’t experience any frame rate/lagging issues. This game IMHO is better than 2K8, you just need to get used to the game itself. Also, I agree the floor is on the shiny side and the light reflection doesn’t help. However overall the game is better than last year’s edition.

I picked it up yesterday and my sixers season is 3 - 3. It is a big improvement on 2k8 which I felt let down on but I really like this new game. Williams is money from the bench! Green sucks despite having a decent rating so its nice to see it is still realistic.

Just played the game in my xbox 360 and these are my thoughts:

- I think the game is severely overrated. I heard guys saying its 10x better, but for me its like 2x 1.5 times better only. Sure, there was an improvement, like what 2k had every year. But it's not that great.

- One of the bugs is being able to get a charging in fullcourt press with EASE. All you had to do is call a fullcourt press then while you are guarding your opponent press the charging button, and it will work 7 out of 10 times.

- Pick and roll is unstoppable. There are improvement in pick and roll defense like trapping, but still it is still unrealistically unstoppable.

- It's really easy to score when your scoring from the inside. My leading scorers per 5/quarter are EB with 21ppg and Daly with 16ppg. Although, as a non-CPU player, it's a lot easier to block shots than in 2k8.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

awesome game.

i hadn't played since 2k7 and i really didn't play that too much because i wasn't that big of a fan.

but i got 2k9 and it's awesome. i was kind of surprised to see how awful the sixers are...like 4 out of 12 bars (maybe it's 10, it's hard to count). still, i'm able to win with them. williams is awesome off the bench. speights and young are dominant for me. young got injured in the first game of my association. separated shoulder. he missed like 3 weeks but he's averaging 35 ppg since his return. speights is averaging around 10 ppg. i'm an awful rebounder, but a good shot blocker. dalembert is averaging close to 3. brand is injured so that's no fun. for a while i was playing without brand and young. that was hard.

i really like the game, though. the player models look really good (most of them) and the floor at the wachovia center is incredible. i've noticed all the lights that reflect off it but i think it's awesome. it really looks like an actual nba game, especially on a 42 inch HDTV.

i also haven't noticed any issues with charging or the pick and roll. there have been maybe 4 charging calls in the 10 games i've played. as for the pick and roll, i don't have any problems stopping it but if it's supposed to be impossible to stop, maybe i'll start running that.

Having played the game a whole lot more, here are some of things that I've picked up about this game.

1) The CPU shoots a RIDICULOUS % in most of the games on All-Star or above
2) Rebounding in the game can be incredibly frustrating
3) The Knicks play just like a D'Antoni team in that they run and gun NON-STOP.
4) If you play the Pistons in Detroit, that damn announcer says "Deeee-troit Basketball". Ugh.
5) Andre Miller seems to have a really low rating based on last season while Gilbert Arenas seems way too high for a guy who has struggled with knee problems.
6) Elton Brand is a beast inside and has a TON of low post moves

All in all, I had the game freeze up once but that seems to have been a fluke since it hasn't happened any other time. Like someone else said, they Sixers still do not have the red alternative uni's but I guess I can live with that since there are a number of throwbacks. To me, this is the best basketball game that has yet to be put out. And oh yeah.... the player models are absolutely sick! Job well done.

it sucks that they make you choose between shot stick dribble moves, and passing aimer, I want all 3 dammit. and why cant they let you make your default controls or at least give you more options than the default, I HATE x being shoot, HATE it

I'm behind with just a PS2...But is it still worth getting? Are there enough improvements?
