On ESPN's Cold Pizza, Steven A Smith just reported a trade looks likely between the Pistons and the Nuggets......
Detriot will receive:
Allen Iverson
Denver will receive:
Chauncey Billups
Antontio Mcdyess
Don't quite understand this from Detriots perspective...

I like the trade for the Pistons. You take a shot with Iverson for one year, even if it doesn't work you unloaded Billups' bad contract and you stick Stuckey in as the starter next year.
I actually think AI will be a good fit there though because unlike Denver the Pistons have good defensive players around Iverson. Prince,Sheed and Rip can cover up some of AI's defensive flaws.
For us now we get to face Iverson 4 times per season and maybe in the post season. Should be fun.

kind of came out of the blue, it seems.
i don't really follow basketball other than the sixers but when the sixers traded iverson everyone knew for about 10 months that it was going to happen. this was the first i heard of iverson being traded again.
i kind of feel like he's going to end his career as a 76er. it really seems like he just hasn't found a home since he went to denver. he was never too crazy about the nuggets, it seemed like and i remember him talking about how much he missed philadelphia, so who knows.
i could definitely see him realizing it was a mistake to punch his own ticket out of philadelphia.

Great deal for Detroit. They get the best player and also shed a lot of salary of older, declining players. Either Iverson works out there and provides them the scoring punch they need or they free up salary to offer a max contract to someone else. Denver meanwhile gets two guys on the wrong end of 30 who have some serious years and money left on their contracts and have injury issues. They might benefit short term, but long term, Detroit is the winner in my book.

Detroit is obviously looking at this from two different points of view...
1) They make a run with Iverson and Sheed on the team this year
2) Both of those players have expiring contracts and so they can become MAJOR players in the free agent market next summer (who's worth signing?). I assume they plan on having Stuckey take over at PG after this season so Iverson will basically be a rent-a-player this year.

Wow ... Iverson must think he died and went to heaven. This is a tremendous opportunity for AI. His last opportunity at a championship probably. I wish him well.

Would you make the following trade?
Andre Miller, Joe Smith, and Jason Smith for Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess, and Cheikh Samb??

This trade makes a lot of sense from Denver's perspective. It adds the playmaking PG Carmelo definitely needs that AI is not. McDyess brings a defensive presence to Denver that's lacking once Camby was moved. A pairing of Carmelo and Billups would be an excellent building block for Denver.
For Detroit, I guess it's now or never. AI brings in plenty of scoring but defensively, he's not great. But, there are players on this team that can compensate for him (Prince, Rip, Rasheed). My only concern for them is who's going to take over for McDyess? Johnson? Maxiell. Maybe Amir because Maxiell's more suited as an energy guy off the bench. Also, does this mean more time for Kwame? Also, at PG, does Stuckey start now? Does Rip come off the bench because a Rip/AI pairing makes no sense. It seems like Detroit has to adjust more to this move than Denver.
For the Sixers, it means that the East just got tougher. AI's coming back more frequently now. Will he be kissing the Sixer logo this time around? I don't think so. He's more likely to stick a dagger in it.

Also... by my estimation, if the Pistons allow Iverson and Wallace to walk after this season... they will have roughly $23MIL in salary cap room with a team lineup that looks like this...
PG: Stuckey
SG: Hamilton
SF: Prince
PF: Maxiell
C: ???
If Speights improves... I won't be opposed to sending Sam to Detroit for a quart of 10W-30.

If this is true: WOW! I read something about this on slamonline.com earlier this morning, but didn't really think much of it.

Right on the money, in my opinion. This is a great move by Detroit to make a big push this year, followed by a re-tooling in the off season. If Amir Johnson, Maxiell and Stuckey can step up to fill the voids left by Billups and McDyess, this team could look very good. Also, keep in mind that Rasheed Wallace can be a good trading chip to be used after this season, if they do indeed decide to let Iverson go.
Good trade for Denver, too. They're already screwed when it comes to their cap situation, so they may as well try to make things work with some more defence and a more conventional team.
Bad deal for me, as I've got yet another outdated Iverson jersey. Oh well.
EDIT: Looks like Rasheed is a free-agent after this season. The deal makes even more sense now.

LOL! Wait... did I miss something or are the following statements true?
- The team is now lead by a Big Three that includes a 33 year old Iverson, a 34 year old Wallace, and a 30 year old Hamilton. Two of the Big Three are past their primes.
- A rookie coach is now supposed to get 100% effort out of Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson? Actually, Iverson will show up for the games but practice.... wait... we're talking 'bout practice??
- Iverson is supposed to now run the point for the Pistons and manage to keep the egos of Wallace, Hamilton, and Prince happy. Last I checked, he wasn't able to keep one other teammate happy (see: Anthony, Carmelo... Webber, Chris) so how is he going to pull this off?
- Finally, Billups was the glue that made that team win a title. It was his big shots that got them their rings and so I don't see AI showing up and being an upgrade over that. Also... will AI last the whole season with the amount of miles on his body?
I think Detroit took a big step up in star power but a step back as far as being a contender goes.

This looks like a salary dump by Detroit, plain and simple.
Does it give the Pistons a little more sizzle this season? Sure...but not enough in my estimation to win a title. And there is NO WAY that they are resigning him with Stuckey waiting in the wings.
Good trade for Denver...they really needed to move AI, and Billups is probably as good as they were going to get this offseason with AI's contract rolling off.

..what? When have Sheed or Rip or Prince ever had major egos about how many shots they take?
or for that matter, i don't really remember Anthony or Webber complaining about Iverson taking shots from them.
This is a way for the Pistons to rebuild next year while not giving up on next year. It's a solid move. If McDyess gets back to where he was 2 years ago then Denver wins.

I wouldnt say its out of the blue,I've been reading that Denver could trade Iverson since the preseason......but if you mean this specific trade then yea I guess it is out of the blue.
I kind of see this as a salary dump for Detroit as well.
I will always love AI but just cant see him back here.
I guess this ends any questions on who got the better end of the Iverson/Miller trade.
