Another good result with a draw at Bayern. We´re not creating much, but the finish is clinical. That´s what is saving us atm.
Bayern seems to have a real crisis. Chance for Mainz here to throw them out of the cup.

In other news, Bobic sacked at Hertha. :lol:

I used to be a big fan of Svensson but reality is we are playing some of the worst anti-football in the league right now.

Over 90 minutes today there wasn’t a single time where we had possession of the ball in the opposing half for longer than a couple seconds. Every ball is kick and rush.
The local Sunday league is more watchable.

Granted Union is a good opponent but what we are doing has nothing to do with football and on top of that Svensson is unable to adjust the 5-3-2 system when it is not working and go for a 4-4-2 or whatever.
We are as predictable as it gets.

It is even a miracle that we managed to score through a questionable handball penalty.
If it wasn’t for that call, we could‘ve played for 900 additional minutes without a goal.

After a somewhat relieving 3-1 victory against Augsburg last week, a difficult away game in Leverkusen coming up.

Would be nice if we could string together two good games in a row. We haven’t done that in a while.

1:1 draw against Freiburg.
Should've gotten more from this game but we didn't convert our chances in the first half and then went on to conceed the stupidest of all goals in the 2nd half...
Luckily got the last minute lucky punch. Stadium erupted when Onisiwo made the equalizer.

Nelson Weiper got like 15-20 minutes of action yesterday. 5th appearance in the league. He already looks like he has been playing in the league for years. This guy is going to be very good.

Despite Nagelsmann's generally good results he has that Pep streak of matching numbers tactically and strangling play instead of going for the extra goal in scenarios where the latter's easier. Tuchel has a prior relationship with Choupo-moting but this is the shortest onboarding ramp I've seen a club manager given right before the business end of the CL. It's been a while FC Hollywood.

On the other hand the CL favorite just destabilized right before facing Pep's team...

And Nagelsmann will probably have great options for next club, including potentially Real and PSG. Real had previously tried to sign him in 2018.

I can't see him at PSG, but Real would definitely be a strong choice for Nagelsmann. Do you think that Perez would still be interested? I heard that the club is interested in promoting Raul soon, and he seems to love Pochettino too. Is there any truth to that?

No guaranteed contracts for managers in European football?

Not sure if that’s better than the situatIon in the US with the NFL and the NBA where head coaches typically have 5-year fully-guaranteed deals starting at $5 million per annum.

^^There's a good chance Perez sacks Ancelotti this summer regardless, so it's possible. Raul is ok, but fellow fans are more excited by Xabi Alonso. But I think both options are too early, and I don't buy into Raul hype at all. I also think Ancelotti is generally still a good choice for the club now because there are currently bigger problems the club needs to address than coach and he's probably the most attacking coach of all the names mentioned. Brazil has flirted with Ancelotti a lot since the world cup and the coach may leave Real for them too. Gautier is already getting sacked based on media reports, and given the stupidity of his selections vs Bayern can only agree with it. Perez is more excited by Nagelsmann than me; on a stylistic level I think he suits clubs that prefer Dutch styles like Barcelona more. There was a phase before Pocch's PSG stint that I was quite excited by him, but the squad has changed and so has Pocch's legacy. I don't see how he's in the same tier as the rest of the names anymore, and he should get back to work wherever he can be immediately employed. I would like to see Pocch and Brendan Rodgers in la liga some day.

Shorter contracts with coaches is generally better for clubs. The only major case of a manager walking away while a club was interested in the top tier I remember was Hansi Flick leaving for the national team.

It depends on the manager. A big name will require a guaranteed contract from the start, while a less accomplished manager will have to have hit some targets before the contract becoming fully guaranteed.

- Bo Svensson (Mainz)
- Thomas Tuchel (Bayern)
- Marco Rose (RB Plastics)
- Sandro Schwarz (Hertha BSC)

Honorable mention: Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool)

Nagelsmann is welcomed to have an internship in Mainz. He can learn a thing or two from Svensson.
