there's a mexican newspaper confirming it. i don't get this move. sure, every argentinian bows down to maradona no matter what, but when he's tried to be coach hes results haven't been that good to take one of the most powerful teams in the world to world glory.

questionable move. dont get me wrong, i consider maradona the greatest that ever played the game but he is too unstable to lead major program to world cup. especially since pressure will be on him to succeed since this a golden chance for Argentina as they ll be odds on favorite to win it all with players like aguero messi and tevez. i wish him the best though, one the players that defined the sport.

why did basile left anyways?

Mind boggling move. A genius-but-borderline-lunatic and abuser of hard drugs as a NT? WOW. Still, NOBODY will dare to question his authority, as Diego is the GOAT Argentinian. I hope it pans out well, but I fear Diego will make Isiah look like Sir Alex Ferguson.

yeah, every argentinian worships maradona at the same way one would worship God, but i don't know how that will help to make argentina a top team and win a WC.

and i read this morning that he's not alone, bilardo will be the "technical secretary" (translation?) some sort of the GM or the director of operations. i think he will be an important part in the tactical situation of the game.

and basile left because of the pressure and because the team started to look numb and there wasn't much he could do to get it back on track.

Wow! This is audacious to say the least. He's only been "reportedly" sober and substance free for a little less an year and I just hope all the job tension doesn't push him into doing anything bad to himself again.

Maradona is not the greatest player who ever played. Not even close....

I'm pretty sure his coaching experience is limited and hopefully he's healthy enough to take on this task.

I would think there were other viable candidates, this is risky.

it is not that bad. bilardo will have lot of influence in player selections, training and tactics and if maradona can stay out of trouble and be a mentor, his presence would be invaluable to the team.
