ElTurco wrote:i remember when Ribery first came to Turkey nobody paid attention to him as a youngster from a mediocre French team especially since he and Anelka came to Turkey at the same time and Anelka dominated the headlines. but in short time, he established himself as the best midfielder in the league and even put Anelka to shame. i think just about everybody in Turkey was aware he would be playing for a big time club soon.
now that i think about it, Ribery-Gala debacle wasn't even the dumbest move by a Turkish team, top spot goes to Gaziantepspor for refusing to sign 18 year old Kaka for 1.5 million dollars just because they thought he was "too young" . 9 years later he is worth well over 100 million dollars.
Ribery was called "Anelka's bonus", look how that turned out. About the Kaka thing, there are rumors that Trabzonspor rejected Shevchenko when he was pretty young too, I thought those were never verified. And the limitation for foreign players makes it difficult to gamble.
