Kahn vs Schmichel!

Post#1 » by Kahn_2001 » Tue Aug 28, 2012 9:29 pm

Both are legendary keepers and have won countless amounts of trophies. Schmichel won the euro cup with Denmark which is a huge accomplishment and stole a CL trophy from Kahn in 99. I never really got to see him, but from everything I have heard he was amazing.

I'm not going to say much about Kahn because it will come off as biased, but he probably had the greatest performance in 02 WC and he won Munich the CL in 01.

Who do you guys think was better?

I wasn't old enough to watch and appreciate Schmeichel totally and I watched a lot of Kahn but from what I hear Schmeichel is rated next only to Lev Yashin and Zoff.

In my opinion, Marcos was just as good Kahn in WC 02. Marcos had been more exposed than Kahn the whole tournament because of a poor CB depth Brazil had that time(would have been cleen sheet the whole knockout stage if Lucio didn't gave Owen the ball, at England vs Brazil game), and performed far better in the finals.

I have better football memories of Schmeichel than Kahn. Schmeichel also aged better than Kahn.

Schmeichel imo. Might be the best I have ever seen tied with Buffon.

Schmeichel could kick the life out of the ball. He was brilliant. Unfortunately, I did not see enough of him to rank him ahead of Kahn

I'd have Kahn just ahead of Schmichel

I saw them in their prime, & Peter Schmeichel for me. Kahn pretty close, but i still pick Schmeichel.

I prefered Kahn, he had that fury that I love seeing goalies play with. Like Patrick Roy in hockey he hated seeing the ball/puck in his own net so much that there were times that the ball stayed out simply because Kahn hated it out. Can't really go wrong with either.

Hart: Run around like an idiot during the game and f*** s*** up!

Thats what I loved about Kahn, he was just so intense and he could carry teams to victories even though he was a goalie. There is no way Munich would have lost that Cl if Kahn was in net, he would have killed Robben for that miss.

Peter also had the same emotion like Kahn. He was famous with his red nose for a reason.

basically both of them really same goalkeepers, styles, skills, really same, but I must go with Peter because he had longer prime compared to Kahn. Peter 1992-2000, Kahn 1999-2005. I believe since 2005 he prone to mistakes, really sad to see such a great GK declining so fast.

I didn't mean to suggest Schmeichel wasn't an emotional goalie, but for Kahn it wasn't emotion, it was pure hatred for having to take the ball out of his net. And that craziness will always endear him to me. As you say though both were very similar and I loved watching Schmeichel as well.
