I just beat myself with a boot every time I try to make sense of how this man hasn't been a cornerstone for England national team in his career. Any other country and he'd have been worshipped for his talent.

perhaps because he is slow and crumbles under pressure? players are worshipped generally because they come up big in big games.

COming up short against Iniesta/Xavi & Busquets is not crumbling under pressure, especially when your midfield partners are a 39 year old and a fatty.

Even Pirlo plays in a midfield 3 that protect him on a regular basis.

he was non existent against real as well, seems like whenever he is pressed or physically challenged he doesn't seem to know what do.
