I get where you're coming from, but I can't not give him credit where credit is due. His country had their backs against the wall and he managed to score a hat trick on the road to propel them to Brazil.

Sure, we can say it shouldn't have come to this while being in a less than stellar group, but he played well when it absolutely mattered.

They've eli manning'd it. Muddled their way through to have a chance to advance and then came up with their absolute best when they absolutely had to. I love it.

The people who try to downplay Ronaldo's performance and the must-win scenario that Portugal was in, would be the same people who would have trashed Ronaldo had he disappeared in these games.

Of course he would have been trashed if he disappeared. He was expected to perform and his country was expected to win. We aren't talking about an average player.
