Germany-Hungary in 54 deserves a shout to, being as it's the greatest upset of all time in football.

United States-England 1950
North Korea-Italy 1966
Argentina-Colombia 1993
France-Brazil 1998
Senegal-France 2002
Greece-the field 2004
Iraq-the field 2007

Great upset? Yes. Greatest upset of all time? No.

Maybe. Greatest match ever, nope. Still remember that game like it was yesterday though. The party throughout the entire country was absolutely insane

I chose it because it was an upset of cataclysmic proportions. While the Colombian team were no scrubs, the Argentines were very much favored, but Colombia made them look like complete amateurs, and in their own stadium, too.

It was a WC final where a group of amateurs solidified the mighty magyars as the greatest international side never to win a major tourney. Greece versus the field, and France-Brazil are the only ones on that list that where even in trophy deciding matches, and neither featured as massive of a gap between the favorites and underdog, or the significance that silencing that dominant Hungary team had. We're talking about one of the all time greatest sides in history, a team that got stuck trophyless because of a group of guys from a country that didn't even have a national professional league

Iraq vs the field 2007 was also a title run.

I should've included in a major tourney, as the field in asia isn't as impressive to overcome in my eyes.

Considering Hungary destroyed Germany 8-1 like a week before. Yeah this probably was the biggest upset ever.

Consider this, though:

Just a year before, three of the teams they beat (Australia, South Korea, Saudi Arabia) had made it to the World Cup, with Australia making it to the round of 16. Iraq didn't even make it out of pre-qualifying for the World Cup - they failed to qualify for an attempt to qualify for the World Cup.

I don't think their 2007 Asian Cup run was the greatest upset ever, but it's definitely up there, in my opinion.

2010 CL, iirc. Arsenal won the first leg 2-1. Barca won the second 4-1, Messi scored all four goals.

In all Arabic commentary glory.

Can't believe we were winning that tie 3-1 at one point. Look at the players! Almunia, Denilson, Sylvestre, Bendtner, Eboue.

Nice of Sylvestre to pass Messi the ball for his first goal.

Almunia on the third goal still kills me. Messi clean through for a one v one. What does he do? Kneels down. Make yourself as small as possible, that's what they teach right?

I'd give it an up there, especially when you factor in everything that was going on in the country at the time.

But it's still not the same as West Germany putting together a group of guys with no national proleague, in their first WC, not even a decade after WWII which ended the nazi regime that had opposed the sport in our country, and beating the best team the world had ever seen at that point.

This sport has seen some spectacular upsets, but West Germany winning the WC in 1954 is simply the most spectacular upset of all time, the scale of the achievement, it's significance to the history of the game, the massive gap in both talent and organization between the two nations, it's just not something you can compare other upsets to.

In recent memory, Spain-Germany in the wc semis in 2010 may have not been the best in terms of quality but the tension was ridiculous. Just absorbing, nerve wracking and my heart almost stopped soo many times...

Brazil and Germany in 2002 has to be up there as well.

Not saying these are the best, just that they were phenomenal matches I remember

That's a little misleading because west germany was already through to the next round and so played a B team against the hungarians.
