Barça has had so little turnover over the past few seasons where this type of decision wouldn't hurt in the short-term, but this was actually going to be a huge summer to replace Valdes and finally get a real center defender to replace Puyol instead of trying to shoehorn Mascherano in the role.

Yep, it is. But it's basically the same as if some billionaire would say look I am rich, laws don't apply to me.

Visca Barca!!!

I know the team broke some laws and i hope they get fined, but it kind of sucks that when we actually need to replace players, we can't.

As expected, Fifa has lifted Barca's transfer ban for the upcoming transfer period.

The club FC Barcelona has lodged an appeal before the FIFA Appeal Committee against the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee that sanctioned the club for breaches relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18. Together with the appeal, the club requested that its appeal be granted suspensive effect.

In this respect, the chairman of the FIFA Appeal Committee, Larry Mussenden, took into consideration the sanctions imposed against the club, the complexity of the matter, the start date of the next registration period – 1 July 2014 – and the fact that the FIFA Appeal Committee does not seem in a position to take a decision on the main issue early enough so that an eventual appeal of the club against its decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport would still be decided before the beginning of the next registration period. Consequently, the chairman of the FIFA Appeal Committee considered that the appeal lodged by the club is to be granted suspensive effect.

So Barca will be able to sign players this starting July 1st.

Is somehow the right decision. They only suspended it until the appeal has been finalized. Otherwise Barcelona could end up being punished for something they would later be found innocent of.

Point 14 on that list made me laugh. "Other clubs in the vicinity of Barcelona are estimated to have 15,000 players in violation of the same rule, according to FIFA"- essentially amounts to 'people around us are estimated to have way more cases of this happening, why are we being sanctioned for it?'

Regardless, they need this transfer window (should have used last summer TBH) to replace out-going/injured players and it would have been unfair to penalize them before they've been proved guilty of any infractions.

Good that we will be able to make some signings this summer.

Just like how they let criminals walk around free until they've used their appeals

It's ridiculous, but expected. They'll never do anything of any substance

it is about as good of defense as saying "hey, thousands of people get away with speeding every year, they deserve this ticket just as much as i do, why should i be punished for getting caught?"

fifa and uefa are a joke.

This is how appeals work. Is anyone surprised? Barca will be banned in the later half of the window through the winter window and maybe even into the first few weeks of next summer's window so that Fifa can announce a big 9-10 month transfer ban that really only stops them from using the winter mercado and everyone wins...

barcelona really are thieving ****. its not even beneficial to do business with them, every time you try to buy young players from them they make it so they have the right to buy the player back if he becomes successful. they did it with bojan at roma, essentially making him useless because if he ever turned into a good player, barca wouldve just bought him back and theres nothing roma couldve done. it hurts the player and the club buying him, because theres no incentive to develop or involve him.
